As a Facilities Management apprentice at Savills, I play an active role in supporting the efficient day-to-day operation of buildings while developing a broader understanding of facilities management within the built environment. Building on my foundation in Facilities Services, I contribute to key areas such as compliance management, contractor coordination, and maintaining critical services including internet connectivity, ensuring operational continuity and high service standards. Alongside this, I support ongoing projects and administrative processes, working collaboratively with colleagues to deliver effective and timely solutions. The role requires a proactive and detail-oriented approach, as I regularly identify potential issues, take ownership of tasks, and contribute to continuous improvement within the team. This combination of hands-on responsibility and professional development is enabling me to transition from service delivery into a more strategic facilities management role, strengthening my ability to add value and progress within the industry.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I thoroughly enjoy my apprenticeship programme and find it both rewarding and motivating. The combination of hands-on experience and structured learning allows me to continuously develop my skills while applying them in a real working environment, which makes the learning far more meaningful. I particularly value the level of responsibility I am given, as it has helped build my confidence and encouraged me to take ownership of my work. Being able to contribute to the day-to-day operation of buildings while also gaining a deeper understanding of facilities management keeps the role engaging and dynamic. The support from my team and the opportunity to progress have made the experience even more enjoyable, as I feel genuinely invested in and challenged to grow. Overall, I see the programme as a valuable stepping stone in my career, and I take a lot of satisfaction in the progress I have made so far.

Yes, throughout my apprenticeship I have developed a wide range of both new and existing skills. I have significantly strengthened my communication skills by working closely with colleagues, contractors, and stakeholders, ensuring information is shared clearly and effectively. My organisational and time management skills have also improved, as I regularly balance multiple tasks and priorities to support the smooth running of operations. In addition, I have developed a more proactive and problem-solving mindset, learning to identify issues early and contribute to practical solutions. From a technical perspective, I have gained a better understanding of compliance processes, building operations, and the coordination of services within facilities management. Perhaps most importantly, I have grown in confidence and independence, progressing from needing regular guidance to taking ownership of my work and contributing more strategically to the team. Overall, the apprenticeship has enabled me to continuously build on my skill set in a way that directly supports both my role and long-term career development.

How well organised/structured is your programme?

My apprenticeship programme is well organised and provides a clear structure that supports both my development and day-to-day responsibilities. There is a strong balance between practical, on-the-job learning and structured study, allowing me to apply what I learn directly in a real working environment. I am given a dedicated study day each week, which for me is on a Friday where I am able to work from home, and I recognise that this level of flexibility is something I am fortunate to have. Alongside this, expectations are clearly communicated, and I receive regular support from both my manager and training provider through progress reviews and feedback, helping me stay on track and continue improving. The programme also allows for gradual progression, enabling me to take on increasing responsibility as my confidence and skills develop. Overall, the structure and support in place make the apprenticeship both manageable and highly effective for my learning and growth.
How much support do you receive from your employer?

I receive a high level of support from my employer, which has been essential to my development throughout the apprenticeship. From the outset, there is a clear understanding that you are not expected to know everything when stepping into the role; instead, the focus is on having a strong willingness to learn, a positive attitude, and the determination to succeed. My manager and team are very approachable and always willing to provide guidance, whether that’s explaining processes, answering questions, or offering constructive feedback to help me improve. This supportive environment has allowed me to build confidence over time and gradually take on more responsibility. I am encouraged to ask questions, learn from mistakes, and continuously develop my skills, which has made a significant difference in my progression. Overall, the support I receive not only helps me succeed in my role but also motivates me to keep learning and pushing myself further.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

I receive a high level of support from my training provider, which has played a key role in my progress towards my qualification. They are consistently approachable, responsive, and genuinely invested in my development. I have regular contact with them, including weekly check-ins when needed, which helps keep me on track and provides an opportunity to discuss any challenges or areas for improvement. The feedback I receive is detailed and constructive, giving me clear direction on how to strengthen my work and meet the required standards. They also take the time to ensure I fully understand the expectations of the assessment criteria, helping me approach tasks in a way that maximises my performance. The level of support has been so positive that I specifically requested to continue with the same provider for my higher-level apprenticeship. Overall, their guidance has been instrumental in building both my confidence and ability to succeed in the programme.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

My qualification has been highly valuable in helping me perform better in my role, particularly within an industry where it can be easy to focus on simply following processes and completing tasks as instructed. Through my training, I have developed a much deeper understanding of why things are done in a certain way, rather than just how to do them. This has strengthened my overall knowledge of the wider facilities management industry and allowed me to approach my work with greater awareness and confidence. It has also enabled me to engage in more informed and meaningful discussions with colleagues, as I can contribute not just from a practical perspective but with a stronger theoretical understanding behind it. Overall, the qualification has enhanced both my day-to-day performance and my ability to think more critically about the work I do.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

There are a wide range of extra-curricular activities available at Savills, which really enhances the overall experience as an apprentice. There are opportunities to get involved in sports such as football, rugby, and netball, as well as regular social events including team drinks, lunches, and networking opportunities. The company also hosts initiatives like apprentice awards and professional development sessions, including weekly seminars focused on improving digital tools and systems. Within the industry itself, there are often office launches and events that provide further opportunities to network, where attending can include benefits such as breakfast, coffee, or other incentives. Overall, there is a strong culture of engagement and inclusion, with plenty of opportunities to get involved both socially and professionally, making it easy to build connections and broaden your experience beyond your day-to-day role.

What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Savills?
My main advice would be to not worry about knowing everything before you start, because you are not expected to. What really matters is your attitude, your willingness to learn, and how you approach new challenges. If you come in with a positive mindset, ask questions, and show that you’re keen to develop, you’ll fit in well. I would also say just be yourself throughout the application process and focus on showing your work ethic, communication skills, and how you work with others, as those things go a long way here. Once you’re in, make the most of every opportunity, get involved, speak to people across the business, and don’t be afraid to step outside your comfort zone. The more you put into it, the more you’ll get out of it.
