Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
Working in a nursery on a day-to-day basis involves caring for young children while supporting their learning and development in a safe and engaging environment. This includes supervising play, helping with meals and personal care such as nappy changing or toilet training, and planning activities like arts and crafts, storytelling, and outdoor play. Staff also observe and record children’s progress, ensuring each child’s needs are met. Alongside this, nursery workers clean and prepare resources, follow strict health and safety and safeguarding procedures, and communicate regularly with colleagues and parents about the children’s wellbeing and daily experiences.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I enjoy my programme to a great extent because it allows me to develop practical skills and gain valuable experience, especially in working with young children. I find it rewarding to learn how to support children’s development through play and everyday activities, while also building confidence in communication and teamwork. Although some aspects can be challenging, such as managing behaviour or staying organised, overall the programme is enjoyable and helps prepare me for a future career.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
Yes, I have learned several new skills and also developed existing ones during my programme. I have improved my communication skills by interacting with children, parents, and staff, and I have become more confident working as part of a team. I have also learned practical skills such as planning activities, observing and recording children’s development, and supporting their daily care needs. In addition, my patience, organisation, and ability to manage different situations have developed, which are all important when working in a nursery environment.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
5/5
My programme is well organised and clearly structured, which helps me understand what is expected and stay on track with my learning. The course is divided into manageable units that cover both theory and practical work, allowing me to build my knowledge step by step. There is a good balance between classroom learning and placement experience, which makes it easier to apply what I have learned in real situations. Overall, the structure supports my progress and helps me develop the skills needed for working in a nursery.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
I receive a good level of support from my employer, which helps me feel more confident in my role and development. My colleagues and supervisors are approachable and willing to offer guidance when I need help, whether it’s understanding tasks, managing situations with children, or completing observations. I am given clear instructions and regular feedback, which helps me improve my skills. Overall, the support I receive makes it easier to learn and grow within the nursery environment.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
I receive a good level of support from my training provider while working towards my qualifications. Tutors are available to explain tasks, answer questions, and provide guidance on assignments, which helps me stay on track. I am given regular feedback on my work, so I understand how to improve and meet the required standards. There are also check-ins and reviews to monitor my progress, ensuring I am developing the necessary knowledge and skills. Overall, the support from my training provider helps me feel confident and supported throughout my course.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
5/5
I feel that my qualification helps me perform better in my role to a great extent, as it provides me with the knowledge and skills needed to work effectively in a nursery setting. The training helps me understand child development, safeguarding, and how to plan appropriate activities, which I can apply directly in my day-to-day work. It also builds my confidence in handling different situations and ensures I am following correct procedures. Overall, the qualification supports both my practical abilities and my understanding, allowing me to carry out my role more professionally and effectively.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
Yes, there are some extra-curricular activities available to get involved in at my workplace. These can include social events such as team gatherings or celebrations, which help build relationships with colleagues. There may also be opportunities to attend training sessions, workshops, or networking events that support professional development. While there are not always sports teams or regular activities, there are still chances to get involved beyond day-to-day work and feel part of the team.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend The Workplace Nursery to a friend?
Yes
Why?
Yes, I would recommend the Workplace Nursery to a friend because it provides helpful support for both parents and childcare settings. The scheme allows parents to save money on nursery fees by paying through a salary sacrifice arrangement, which reduces tax and National Insurance contributions . This can make childcare more affordable and less stressful. It also benefits nurseries by bringing in additional funding and resources, which can improve the overall environment for children. Overall, it is a useful initiative that supports working families while also enhancing the quality of childcare provision.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to The Workplace Nursery?
If you’re applying to The Workplace Nursery, my advice would be:
Research the scheme carefully – understand how the salary sacrifice works and how it will affect your pay and tax.
Check eligibility – make sure your employer is signed up and that you meet any requirements for the scheme.
Ask questions – speak to HR or the nursery team if you’re unsure about payments, benefits, or how to enrol your child.
Plan ahead – applications can take time to process, so submit paperwork early to avoid delays.
Stay organised – keep track of deadlines, forms, and any correspondence from the nursery or employer.
