Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
As an Apprentice Surveyor in commercial real estate, my role focuses on supporting the team by attending property inspections, meeting clients, and conducting viewings with prospective tenants or buyers. Day‑to‑day, I interact with the public, help answer enquiries, guide people around commercial premises, and communicate updates to clients and colleagues. I assist senior surveyors during site visits, gather essential property information, and continue developing my professional skills through training, study, and APC‑related learning.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
I am really enjoying my programme and feel that it offers a strong balance of practical experience and professional development. I particularly enjoy the hands‑on elements of the role—meeting clients, conducting viewings, attending inspections, and gaining real exposure to the commercial property market. The variety of work and the chance to build my communication skills keep the role engaging, and I feel I’m progressing well.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
Yes, I’ve developed several new skills and strengthened existing ones throughout the programme. My communication skills have improved significantly, particularly through conducting viewings, speaking with the public, and updating clients. I’ve also developed greater confidence during property inspections and learned how to assess and record key information more accurately. Alongside this, I’ve built a stronger understanding of commercial property processes, improved my organisational skills, and become more comfortable handling day‑to‑day responsibilities within the team.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
I feel that my programme is well organised and provides a clear structure across both my workplace learning and my university studies. The university content is delivered in a structured way that builds my knowledge progressively, and the support available makes it easy to stay on track with assignments and academic expectations. At the same time, the programme gives me the flexibility to shape my own development.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
4/5
I receive excellent day‑to‑day support from my immediate team, who are always willing to answer questions, involve me in work, and guide me through new tasks. Their support has been invaluable to my development so far. However, I feel I could benefit from more structured engagement from the wider Savills Talent Development team.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
I receive strong support from my training provider when working towards my qualifications. I have quarterly meetings with an Apprentice Outcome Officer assigned to me by the university, who checks in on my progress, helps ensure I’m meeting my targets, and provides guidance on any academic or apprenticeship requirements. These meetings are structured and give me a good opportunity to raise questions or discuss any challenges. In addition, my Outcome Officer is always available if I need further support between meetings, which gives me confidence that I have reliable academic guidance alongside my workplace training.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
I feel that my qualification is helpful in supporting my development, even though some of the academic content isn’t directly related to my day‑to‑day role in commercial real estate. The university work gives me a broader understanding of the property industry, key principles, and professional standards, which helps me approach tasks with more confidence and context. It also encourages skills such as critical thinking, research, and report writing, all of which feed back into my role. While the coursework doesn’t always align exactly with the work I do in practice, the underlying knowledge still helps me perform better and progress towards becoming a more well‑rounded surveyor.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5
Yes, there are extra‑curricular activities to get involved in at work, although they don’t happen very often. Most of the opportunities tend to be professional networking events or informal social activities organised within the office. I also help contribute by hosting a few office‑wide quizzes and bingo games, which are a fun way to bring colleagues together.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Savills to a friend?
Yes
Why?
Yes, I would recommend Savills to a friend. The company offers a supportive working environment with great day‑to‑day guidance from my team, and there are strong opportunities to learn and develop within the business. The culture is friendly and collaborative, and even though the wider development support could be more consistent, the overall experience has been very positive. There are also chances to get involved in networking and social activities, which help create a good sense of community. Overall, it’s a rewarding place to start a career in property and gain practical experience.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Savills?
I’d say the most important thing is to show genuine interest in the property industry and a willingness to learn.
