Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
On a day to day basis my role involves completing testing of information provided to me by a client and ensuring it meets all of the audit assertions. I communicate often with the client and with my team, and occasionally have to travel to various different locations for audit testing.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
I really enjoy my programme. The work that I do is really engaging and everyone is really nice and supportive. Only downside is that it can get a bit stressful during exams and college but that comes with getting the qualification.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
My communication has really improved over the 1.5years I've been working here. As has my technical knowledge - I know so much more about accounting, law, audit, and just businesses in general.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
5/5
The programme is really well structured - there's a set amount of exams I need to complete over my 5 year apprenticeship, and I know when the college will be well in advance of that. Because the apprenticeship has been going for many years now I feel like they have a really well established pathway and programme.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
4/5
My employer is really good at supporting me, by providing extra study leave days, fully days of for college etc. They also provide internal training to help develop soft skills as well as technical knowledge, which are really helpful.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
3/5
The training provided is really good - they provide so many resources for us to use and make it clear what needs to be done for the exAMS.
The only thing there was less support on was the elements that are specific to apprenticeships, such as the EPA, gateway calls, on the job training log etc.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
5/5
I think the qualification really helps me perform better - it allows me to have the technical knwoledge required to complete specific elements of testing. It's nice to see that once I've completed a college course and learnt slightly harder elements of accounting for example, that I'll then be trusted with harder, more complex testing at work
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
2/5

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend National Audit Office to a friend?
Yes
Why?
Overall I think it is a really good place to work. The teams I work with are absolutely lovely and really supportive of me, as well as being genuinley interested in my life and caring for me as a 19 year old trying to navigate life away from home!
The apprenticeship is a really well structured programme, and has been really well thought out to complement the work we complete.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to National Audit Office?
Do your research on NAO! Find out about a couple of reports that interest you, find out what we do etc, and you will be sorted!
Also have a look at the key competencies and skills NAO is looking for in an employee and make sure you can demonstrate when you have showed them
