Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
I am an apprentice Quantity Surveyor. My role currently involves a range of different things, from assessing and paying Applications for Payments to creating and agreeing Subcontracts.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
3/5
I enjoy the programme as it provides me opportunity to learn how to work the job while doing the learning part. I believe this is much better than just going to University as I am gaining real life experience working the role I am learning about.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
Throughout the time that I've been on this programme, which is around six months, I have learnt so much more than I knew already. Including Contract management and how to accurately forecast.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
It is very organised in how I do normal work Monday through Thursday then have my Uni day on a Friday. Doing both in parallel helps with the organisation of both. I feel as though it could be more organised by the apprentice leads to check in more and see how we're progressing or provide some support if necessary.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
4/5
There was a bit of support at the start however I still feel as though I had some unanswered questions, therefore making the jump from college/part time work to full time work and Uni a lot more difficult.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
My training provider aims to provide a lot of support towards my learning and tries to ensure I understand the quality and quantity of work I need to provide to continually move forward.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
3/5
So far I feel as though the modules I have completed through my training provider could at some point have a large influence on my work and how I would be able to use the knowledge in a long term project.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
3/5
There are a few networking events that you can get involved with. They also have lots of extra training sessions that you can attend and learn new skills.

Yes
Why?
I would recommend working for Murphy to a friend as they are a large company who put their workers first and aim to continually improve, which is something we should all want to do .
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to J. Murphy and Sons Limited?
For any other people plying my two pieces of advice would be:
- when learning and working, be like a sponge - take as much info/knowledge in as possible.
-Be yourself and just try your best.
