Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
Everyday I will get into the office, and run through my emails and to do list. We have a shared inbox so any work that comes in anybody is free to give it a go, which I really like. The flexibility of this is really good because if you are super busy, somebody else can pick the work up. However, if you aren't so busy, you can pick it up instead. Day to day I am dealing with renewals of accounts from previous years to the current year, working 3 months in advance to update the contracts with any relevant information and any endorsements - which are changes to the contract. The teams around me are so unbelievably supportive, and WTW as a whole really emphasises the importance of having 20% of your working week to allocate to your studies. So, I know that I am guaranteed to have 2 half days / a day per week to study for my exams.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I'm really enjoying this apprenticeship. Being so early on in my career, I never thought I would have gained this much experience. WTW has really allowed me to gain confidence I never thought I would have, and has allowed me to flourish and remain myself. Additionally, I have never been made to feel like I am 'just an apprentice', because everyone sees you for who you really are, and everybody wants you to success. I have had an amazing amount of opportunities, such as being able to join different committees within the Business, charity events (such as a charity run in the centre of London dressed as santa!), commutes up to London, lunches with underwriters, and overall an exposure to so many wonderful people. This role has opened so many doors already, because not only am I learning the job role, I am able to gain a CERT and Diploma, and gain valuable life skills along the way.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
Since working at WTW I have learnt so many valuable skills. For example, in terms of work, I have gained technical skills - such as excel, and the platforms used by WTW everyday. This has helped me to be able to perform in my role to the best of my ability. Additionally, I have always been a talkative, bubbly individual, and instead of being made to feel shut down, my team have always embraced this and I feel like this has allowed me to make some truly amazing, valuable connections in and outside of my team. I have been able to develop my confidence, I truly believe since working at WTW I have never felt so willing, and driven to work so hard. WTW has just allowed me to grow into a person I never thought I'd be able to become. And I believe this is due to all the opportunities I have been offered!

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
5/5
This programme is really structured, we have had a clear understanding of how our programme is going to work. For example, we know we are to have 20% of our working week to our studies, and 80% for everything else work wise. We also know that there is a structure of a few months to complete each exam to help us complete the apprenticeship within the ideal timeframe of 2-3 years. This is very helpful as we know where we stand as apprentices in terms of knowing when we ideally should aim to complete our exams.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
I receive an immense amount of support from my employer. I know that if ever anything felt overwhelming, or I was feeling confused, I would always have people to turn to who would be willing to help me out.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
I receive good support from my training provider, they hold training sessions, revision sessions and monthly catchups to see how we are getting on. This is a very consistent procedure and you never feel as though you have been left in the dark because people are always willing to put time aside to help you out.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
The general training isn't only helping me work towards my exams, but it is revision essentially for your job role. Every day that I revise, and every time we have a revision session, I walk away knowing something new about the job role that I am in. This knowledge is helping me to get a stronger idea on not just my role, but the roles of others too whereby I might one day move into. We also have a CPD learning log where we reflect all of our training, this really helps me to sit down once a week and reflect on everything I have learnt and to write it down for reference. I then can tell what I have worked on and what I feel strongest on, and what I feel I may want to touch base on some more.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
WTW has never ending extra-curricular activities. From networking events where anyone of any experience and age can go and network with one another, it is a really good way to get exposure and to have another friendly face around the office. There are lunch and learns where you can go and play games and get to know other people from the business, and get to learn about others experiences. Additionally, there are loads of events organised by WTW, such as charity events, bake sales where anyone can get involved, running events, committees to join such as diversity and inclusion network groups. For example, the other day in aid of National Womens Day, WTW held an event for WTW employees and other Businesses to go and listen to the story of Katy Piper and other strong women across the board. This was held in London and allowed me to meet new people, work in the London office and catch up with my London team.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend WTW to a friend?
Yes
Why?
This is an opportunity that allows you to remain yourself, but to grow and flourish into someone you will never think you'd be able to become. I have became so much more confident, hard working, resilient and content within this job. There is a never ending amount of support, and you will never ever be made to feel like any of your questions or ideas are silly, or unreasonable. The opportunities WTW has to offer are wide, and as an apprentice the world really feels like your oyster. You are treated like everybody else, no matter your experience, age, gender. WTW is so inclusive, and full of people who want to see you succeed.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to WTW?
My biggest piece of advice is to be yourself. WTW was the only apprenticeship I applied for, and I thought, I am just going to be myself and give it a go. WTW will hire you, for you. So just be yourself, show you are willing to take on this role and work hard, make those interviewing you remember you for a good reason! I would also day, do your research on the business a little, let the interviewers aware that you know what you are talking about. This will show that you have gone the extra mile.
