Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
Leadership of a team of IT Delivery managers to deliver major projects which are migrating HMRC infrastructure to newer technology stacks. I joined HMRC on a L4 Business Admin apprenticeship 9 years ago and am now studying for a degree under professions pathways (applied for the degree programme seperately from the job, internal process)
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
Great course from northumbria

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
5/5
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
20% off the job is honored, and additional support is there if needed -- but I'm not micro-managed. My LM trusts me to do what I need and manage by exception (i.e. flag to him if I need any more from him)
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
5/5
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
CSSC has a range of activities available (but I don't partake)

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend HMRC to a friend?
Yes
Why?
Because they've taken me from being a kid coming out of college and supported my development & career ambitions until the point where I've been able to buy my first home and start a family. HMRC is in my opinion one of the best employers for developing your early career.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to HMRC?
Review Civil Service Success profiles and learn how we interview. Always reach out to the post holder prior to applying to get a feel for what they want, and decide whether it's right for you. Don't overestimate the role banding you should fall within, it is clear when you apply for higher bands whether you are experienced enough for these roles. O band or lower is considered entry level for the civil service, in some cases with limited experience you could achieve HO employment.
