Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
I am a Degree Apprentice in Construction Project Management, combining full‑time project delivery experience with part‑time university study. My role involves supporting the project team in the planning, coordination, and management of live construction works, primarily within NHS healthcare environments. I am currently responsible for managing part of the programme for the project I am on, something I wouldn't have got chance to do if i had just went to university.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I enjoy my role very much. The mix of hands‑on project experience, learning opportunities, and increasing responsibility makes the apprenticeship engaging and motivating. I feel genuinely invested in the work I’m doing and enjoy contributing to projects whilst developing my skills.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
Yes, my apprenticeship has allowed me to develop a wide range of new skills while strengthening existing ones. I’ve gained practical experience in construction project management, particularly within NHS healthcare environments, and have improved my ability to manage work packages independently. I’ve developed strong skills in reviewing and coordinating RAMS, understanding construction sequencing, and ensuring correct permits and documentation are in place. My communication and stakeholder management skills have also improved through regular interaction with contractors, colleagues, and the wider project team. I’ve built confidence in problem‑solving, identifying risks, and escalating issues appropriately.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
5/5
My programme is very well organised and structured. The combination of on‑the‑job learning with university study is clearly planned, and there is a good balance between gaining practical experience and developing academic knowledge. I have regular check‑ins with my line manager and support from both Mace and my university, which helps me stay on track with my progress.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
A lot of support is received from Mace and they genuinely care about your development. I am regularly in contact with my line manager and senior PM, and every question I have is always answered.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
I receive a good level of support from UBE when working towards my qualifications. The online learning platform is clear and easy to navigate, and modules are structured so I can balance study alongside my full‑time project work. Tutors are responsive and provide helpful feedback on assignments, and there is always someone available to contact if I need clarification or guidance.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
5/5
My qualification supports my role very well. The modules I study through UBE directly link to the tasks I carry out day‑to‑day, which helps me understand the reasoning behind processes on site and within project management. Topics such as construction technology, sustainability, health and safety, and project management principles give me a stronger foundation when reviewing RAMS, understanding sequencing, supporting programme updates, and communicating with contractors.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5
There are certainly more than enough social opportunities in terms of work socials e.g. bowling, group activities etc. I also attend networking events regularly and there are plenty of them to keep you occupied. I would enjoy if there were more sports opportunities as I feel like I miss that side of the university environment, but otherwise I am really satisfied with the opportunities.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Mace Consult to a friend?
Yes
Why?
Yes, I would. Mace Consult offers a supportive, engaging environment with strong development opportunities, especially for apprentices. I’ve had the chance to take on real responsibility early on, work on meaningful projects, and learn from experienced professionals. The combination of structured learning, mentorship, and hands‑on experience makes it a place I would confidently recommend to others.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Mace Consult?
My advice for anyone applying to Mace Consult is to show genuine interest in the built environment and be ready to learn. Mace looks for people who are proactive, curious, and willing to take ownership of their development, so demonstrating enthusiasm and a positive attitude goes a long way. Be prepared to give real examples of teamwork, problem‑solving, and communication, even if they’re not from construction. Always be up for new opportunities too, they are often the doors that open to even more opportunities and they are not to be missed!
