Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
I work as an Apprenticeship Tutor delivering the Urban Driver Level 2 standard across multiple depots in the UK. My role involves teaching, coaching and assessing apprentices throughout their 12 month program, ensuring they develop the knowledge, skills and behaviours required to become safe, competent and professional drivers.
On a day-to-day basis, I deliver structured classroom sessions, conduct progress reviews, monitor off-the-job training hours, and provide individual coaching to support both academic progress and practical development. I track learner engagement across systems such as OneFile, DTS Anytime, RoadSkills and Century, ensuring compliance with both government and company requirements.
I work closely with depot managers, trainers and operational teams to coordinate training, support practical test preparation, and maintain high standards of professionalism and safety. Safeguarding, Prevent and learner wellbeing form a key part of my role, and I ensure apprentices feel supported, treated fairly and clear about expectations.
In addition to direct delivery, I contribute to programme development, quality assurance and continuous improvement, helping to raise standards and ensure the apprenticeship provision remains compliant, effective and aligned with operational needs.
My focus is always on developing confident, safe and employable drivers while maintaining strong compliance, clear structure and consistent support throughout the apprenticeship journey.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I have thoroughly enjoyed the Level 3 Supervisor and Team Leader program. It has been both challenging and rewarding, giving me the opportunity to step back from day-to-day operations and reflect on how I lead, influence and support others more effectively.
The program has strengthened my understanding of leadership theory and allowed me to apply it directly within my role. I particularly valued the focus on communication, performance management, team development and self-reflection, as these areas have had an immediate and measurable impact on how I manage relationships and drive standards.
I appreciated that the apprenticeship combined practical application with structured learning. It encouraged me to think more strategically, take greater ownership of decision-making and develop a more confident leadership style. The professional discussions and project work pushed me to analyse processes critically and identify opportunities for improvement.
Overall, I found the program highly beneficial to both my professional growth and the wider team. It has enhanced my confidence as a leader and provided me with tools and frameworks that I continue to use daily.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
Yes, I have developed a wide range of new skills and significantly strengthened existing ones throughout the program.
One of the key areas of development has been my leadership and management approach. I have improved my ability to delegate effectively, set clear expectations and hold structured performance conversations. My confidence in managing difficult discussions has grown, as I now approach them with greater preparation, clarity and professionalism.
I have also enhanced my communication skills, particularly in adapting my style to suit different individuals and situations. This has helped me build stronger working relationships and improve team engagement.
Strategic thinking and planning are areas that have developed considerably. The program encouraged me to analyse processes, identify areas for improvement and implement structured changes rather than reacting to issues. I now take a more measured and data-informed approach to decision-making.
In addition, my organisational skills and time management have improved through balancing operational responsibilities alongside academic work. This has strengthened my ability to prioritise effectively and maintain high standards across multiple areas of responsibility.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
5/5
Overall, the program was well organised and clearly structured. The modules followed a logical sequence, building knowledge progressively and linking theory to practical leadership responsibilities. Expectations were clear, timelines were defined, and the support provided helped maintain focus and direction throughout the course.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
I have received a good level of support from my employer throughout the program. Time was allocated for off-the-job learning and assignments, which allowed me to balance the apprenticeship alongside my operational responsibilities.
There was clear encouragement to develop my leadership skills, and I felt trusted to apply what I was learning within my role. I also had access to guidance from senior colleagues when needed.
The support from my manager helped me complete the program successfully while continuing to perform effectively in my role.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
The support from the training provider was good. The materials and structure were easy to follow and content was clear and achievable.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
5/5
The qualification has provided a solid foundation in leadership principles and management theory, which has supported my development in role. It has helped me reflect more critically on my approach to communication, delegation and performance management.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
Wren have held Driver of the year competitions as well as an annual open day, there are also regular events at depot level including supporting sports matches and charities and other social events.
