Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
Working as an actuarial intern within the wider Consulting team. You would be working on one or two projects at a time while having a few training sessions dotted about. Work could be self obtained or provided by a manager and generally required some additional training to complete.
Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
Yes. We are expected to manage our own time between project work, training, exercises and socials which meant we typically had responsibility over our schedule. However, not much responsibility within a larger project as there aren't many things we can take charge of.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
Yes, I have improved my excel skills and learnt how to use Power BI. I have also improved my social skills and time management. We receive a small amount of training for WTW's own software and professional skills. I have also developed my modelling skills and actuarial knowledge.

Support and Guidance

How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
A lot. Everyone was very kind and open so gave a lot of advice and support. Everyone was happy to help, whether it was with a project, training exercise or trying to find work. People would try their best where they could to guide you and it was a lovely environment where you felt nurtured but not smothered.

Company Culture

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
Fantastic. I vibrant place to work where everyone is incredibly friendly and happy to help. It's not too crowded but it's not empty either, so there's always someone to ask for help without feeling like you're lost in the crowd. Everyone generally cares how you're doing and are happy to take some time to catch up.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend WTW to a friend?
Yes
What advice would you give to others applying to WTW
Take some time to research the job and fully understand the commitments/qualifications required to pursue it. Everyone is really understanding so if you feel like you're mucking up in the interview/testing, relaxing and being friendly will really help. It's definitely a place where personality matters just as much as qualifications so keep that in mind during the interview process. Overall, you will have a great time meeting new and interesting people, try to make the most out of it by networking and socialising!
