Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
At the moment I'm mostly shadowing the mechanical designers and completing work set by them, picking up important skills and knowledge that is fundamental in progressing throughout my apprenticeship. This could range from completing calculations, creating drawings and dealing with the coordination of services.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I thoroughly enjoy my programme because I not only continuously get support when I need it, but I'm doing what I enjoy and getting paid whilst on the job .

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
A bit of both. In design, you've got to continuously communicate with colleagues and clients, so that's developing an existing skill of communication and teamwork. I've learned a plethora of new skills whilst on my apprenticeship, such as sizing pipes and ducts, the scientific principles of BSE being implemented into real-world work, and understanding the process of design in a construction project and being able to manage timeframes.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
5/5
The current programme that I'm on is brilliantly structured and organised, with a clear learning pathway, set timelines to my EPA, and a strong coordination between my employer and learning provider. It is also well-structured due to the vast real-world experience that you are exposed to 4 days/week. You are constantly dealing with actual issues, which quickly teaches you competence and a thorough understanding of your role in the company. An organised apprenticeship review is held every 8-12 weeks, which summarises your progress throughout that time period and what you can aim to learn by the next review. This is a great way of keeping track of your goals as an apprenticeship and what you want to achieve whilst on the programme.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
My employer (G&H) offers endless support not matter what the issue is, with learning at the forefront of their mind. If I'm in need of support, I'll get it and get talked through all aspects of what I don't understand, ensuring that I thoroughly know what it is I'm looking at and not just getting talked through how to overcome it.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
My training provider (LCB) is brilliant when it comes to support. There are numerous tutors that would genuinely take extra time out of their day to offer that support and teach you. They are also available at any time if you wanted to message them on teams if you don't understand anything when youre not in college such as assignments or deadlines.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
5/5
I feel that the qualification that I am working towards is completely relevant to the work I am doing on the job, giving me that insight on what I'm doing and why. It also better prepares me for post-qualification, with the KSB units teaching me more on standards, project roles and responsibilities etc. that most people just pick up on as they gain more experience.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
There are extra-curricular activities at my work that anyone can get involved in, such as our on-site gym, football (5-a-side) and yoga. I feel that these activities get you more active, and also allows you to get to know colleagues better

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend G&H to a friend?
Yes
Why?
It's a perfect opportunity to learn and start your career in building services, with endless support and on-the-job learning. The company is entirely focused on the wellness and development of their employees, especially apprentices.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to G&H?
I would advise that you have a genuine interest and willingness to learn. You should demonstrate technical curiosity, understand what sets G&H apart from the rest and explain why you chose MEP.
