Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
My role is a hybrid between Training Manager and People Manager. I was given the promotion to People Strategy Manager as part of my development into the degree apprenticeship.
My roles typically include creating training initiatives and opportunities for employees and managers, looking at skills gaps and working with SLT to find meaningful solutions for our team.
I also lead the Corporate Social Repsonsibility team and I have conducted a strategy which I am working with my team members to ensure we are utilising the pipeline of young workers and apprentices through relationships with colleges etc.
I am also working with our HR manager to re-write the policies and procedures both for legal purposes and also to ensure the business is future ready.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
I enjoy my programme as it is helping me learn new skills and how to look at the wider company objectives in my day to day work. The company allows me time to attend university and bring my knowledge back into the workplace and use this to development policies and procedures for example. I have been working closely with the People Director on objectives and initiatives that align with my studies, she has been very supportive.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
I have been learning new skills and also having better understanding of the company from an Organisational development point of view. I have learnt to look at external and internal factors when construction business plans and implementing future proof initiatives. I have definitely learnt to analyse and understand wider business objectives and appeal to the senior leadership teams when presenting my cases and writing strategies

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
The course is very organised, it is face to face which allows a lot of experience learning from others. The tutors are friendly and provide lots of support during the training days and encourage us to focus solely on the day rather than work for example. They are always available either via email or on designated training days. I am really enjoying learning from experts in the field
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
My employer is fantastic. My manager is constantly having catch ups with me to understand what I have learnt and how this can be put into practice. I am given ample time to research and write assignments and work on projects - which are reviewed constantly in our 1-2-1's. I am given study days when needed and there is a very flexible approach to this dependent on demand. I am given objectives that directly align with my objectives of the apprenticeship so that I am covering as many Milestones as possible. The best part is knowing that the degree gives me the incentive to stay and move with the company which is already been mentioned as an incentive for me, the company is very good at promoting internally based on merit which I like.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
As mentioned above, the support is fantastic and knowledgeable
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
5/5
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5
I work with many clients and it is part of my development to be more involved. I often attend CIPD networking events as part of my Off the Job requirement hours which my employer accommodates. I also deal with the SV and CSR requirements, that means organising client meetings discussing our collaborative CSR and Social Value approach.
As a member of the people team, we also have many engagement days including summer days out and Christmas nights out. This gives a lot of engagement of staff and is a major reason we have a high retention of staff. I enjoy helping organise and facilitate these types of events.
