Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

I am a designer so i go out on surveys, measure up spaces in peoples homes (mainly Kitchens & Utility Rooms), then i put designs together, present designs and sell.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I really enjoy it, i have gotten straight into everything and i'm selling similar to the other designers in my depot.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

I've learnt new skills on Cad and personally i have learnt alot when speaking to customers, as well as in difficult situations.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?

It is organised, i've had check ins with my trainer each month to run through everything and i am able to email him for help as well. I also recieve alot of support from my manager and the other designers which ahs enabled em to learn so quickly and get stuck into everything.
How much support do you receive from your employer?

Alot, my depot is very motivating to sell and ive learnt alot from the other designers and my manager himself and where ive gotten stuck straight into it, it has given me the confidence to work harder and sell more.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

The support is very good, and my provide helps me to understand timelines and when to get everything sorted and started by to keep on track!
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

I've learnt a lo through my employer through what i do on a day to day basis, but there is a lot of new knowledge that i have learnt through my training provider which i use occasionally.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

No, we have the occassional meeting where designers get together for the day but nothing outside of work.

Why?
It's a fun place to work, you get incentives each month to sell which is really motivating. It really feels like a family!
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Howdens?
Just be yourself, its daunting at first but everyone is so nice! Learning new stuff can be hard but as soon as you are in the swing of it you will be selling in no time and will know all the local tradies!
