Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
As a Pick Associate and Coach, I play a key role in maintaining productivity, quality, and safety within the fulfilment centre. I consistently support associates to achieve strong pick rates while ensuring one-piece flow and correct bin etiquette in partnership with ICQA.
Alongside my picking responsibilities, I deliver start-of-shift safety briefs, carry out safety audits, and provide real-time coaching to improve quality and reduce errors. I proactively identify process issues, escalate risks, and support continuous improvement initiatives to protect customer promise and team performance.
By combining hands-on operational knowledge with leadership and coaching, I help create a safe, efficient, and high-performing working environment.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I genuinely enjoy the apprenticeship programme to a great extent because it allows me to connect theory with real operational practice in my Pick and Coach role. It has strengthened my understanding of leadership, continuous improvement, safety, and performance management, which I apply daily on the floor.
What I value most is how the programme has improved my confidence in decision-making and problem-solving. It has helped me think more strategically rather than just operationally — looking at root causes, waste reduction, and long-term improvements instead of quick fixes.
The structured learning, combined with practical application, has made me more self-aware as a leader and more effective when coaching associates. Overall, the programme is not just a qualification for me; it is actively shaping my growth and preparing me for progression into a Team Lead role.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
Through the apprenticeship programme and my role as a Pick Associate and Coach, I have developed several new skills that have strengthened both my operational and leadership capability.
I have improved my coaching and communication skills, learning how to adapt my approach depending on the individual, whether supporting productivity, quality, or one-piece flow compliance with ICQA. I am now more confident delivering constructive feedback in a clear and supportive way.
I have developed stronger analytical and problem-solving skills, particularly in identifying root causes of quality defects, safety risks, and productivity gaps rather than just addressing surface issues.
My leadership skills have grown significantly. Delivering start-of-shift safety briefs, conducting audits, and supporting associates has improved my confidence in influencing others and holding standards professionally.
I have also gained knowledge in continuous improvement and waste reduction, understanding how small process changes can positively impact safety, performance, and customer promise.
Overall, the programme has helped me move from simply completing tasks to thinking strategically about how to improve the wider operation.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
5/5
The structure and support of the programme have been very effective in helping me progress. The learning is clearly organised, with a good balance between theory and practical application, which makes it easier to apply directly within my Pick and Coach role.
The workshops and online sessions provide a solid framework, while the workplace evidence allows me to demonstrate real impact through safety audits, coaching, and continuous improvement activities. This structure keeps the learning relevant rather than purely academic.
The support from my tutor and workplace mentors has also been valuable. Regular reviews and feedback help me understand where I am performing well and where I can improve. I feel supported in asking questions and developing my understanding further.
Overall, the structure is clear, the expectations are well defined, and the support enables me to stay on track while continuing to grow professionally.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
I receive strong ongoing support from my Team Leads. Their guidance, encouragement, and regular feedback help me develop my leadership skills and continuously improve within my role.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
I receive an exceptional level of support from my training provider. The encouragement, guidance, and structured feedback I am given have been invaluable throughout the programme. My tutor is always approachable and provides clear direction, which helps me understand expectations and stay on track with my progress.
The regular reviews and constructive feedback allow me to reflect on my development and continuously improve. The support is not just academic; it genuinely builds my confidence and motivates me to push myself further.
Overall, the support and encouragement from my training provider have been outstanding and have played a significant role in my growth both professionally and personally.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
5/5
I feel that the qualification has significantly improved my performance in my role. It has given me a deeper understanding of leadership, communication, and continuous improvement, which I now apply daily as a Pick Associate and Coach.
The knowledge I have gained allows me to think more strategically rather than just operationally. Instead of simply reacting to issues, I now focus on identifying root causes, improving processes, and preventing problems before they escalate. This has strengthened my confidence when coaching associates, conducting safety audits, and supporting quality and productivity standards.
The qualification has also improved my decision-making skills and professional communication, enabling me to influence others more effectively and uphold high standards. Overall, it has helped me become more proactive, more structured in my approach, and more aligned with long-term operational goals.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
There are a range of extra-curricular activities available at Amazon that support both personal development and career progression. These include becoming a Safety Champion, supporting continuous improvement projects, acting as a Training Ambassador, joining associate forums, and getting involved in Diversity and Inclusion initiatives or charity events.
Taking part in these activities helps build leadership skills, broaden operational knowledge, and demonstrate ownership beyond core responsibilities. They provide valuable opportunities to develop confidence, influence, and problem-solving skills while contributing positively to the wider team and site performance.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Amazon to a friend?
Yes
Why?
I would recommend Amazon to a friend because it offers strong opportunities for development, progression, and personal growth. From my experience, the training is well structured, and there is continuous support from Team Leads and managers who genuinely want you to succeed.
Amazon provides a fast-paced and professional environment where high standards are encouraged, but you are also given the tools and coaching to achieve them. There are opportunities to take on additional responsibilities, get involved in improvement projects, and develop leadership skills, even before moving into a higher role.
For anyone who is motivated and willing to learn, Amazon offers stability, clear career pathways, and the chance to grow both personally and professionally.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Amazon?
If I were giving advice to someone applying to Amazon, I would say come in with the right mindset from day one. Be prepared to work in a fast-paced environment where standards are high, but also where support and development opportunities are available if you are willing to put the effort in.
Take your training seriously and ask questions if you are unsure about anything. Focus on safety first, then quality, then productivity — if you get those foundations right, everything else will follow.
I would also encourage new starters to show initiative. Volunteer for additional responsibilities, be open to feedback, and look for ways to improve processes rather than just completing tasks. Amazon recognises people who demonstrate ownership and a positive attitude.
Most importantly, stay consistent, stay professional, and always look for ways to develop yourself. The opportunities are there if you are willing to step forward and take them.
