Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
3/5
I do quite a lot of admin, minute taking, organising meetings. I often handle parliamentary business. There are a few research projects that I oversee but am not personally involved in research.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
3/5
My team are great but the role is not what I expected and I'm very detached from any research.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
I have learned a lot so far, and much of this will be transferable to other roles both in government, such as parliamentary business, and outside such as organisation and communication.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
There have been issues at times with the delivery of the uni programme but overall it has been fine so far. There's a lot of unnecessary admin an the apprenticeship reviews we do every 8 weeks or so can be inconvenient.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
4/5
My line manager has been good at trying to find opportunities for me to get more involved with research as this is difficult in the team I'm in. My team have also been very accommodating in terms of my uni work and helping me work things out.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
The lecturers so far have been good.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
3/5
The crossover between the work I do and what I learn at uni is quite limited so far.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
2/5
There are some networks available.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Government Social Research to a friend?
Yes
Why?
Even though it's not really what I expected I am still glad to be in my role and on the programme, and would choose to do it again.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Government Social Research?
It's worth applying and stick with the application process even if it feels like it may be going badly. Do be aware of the breadth of work you may be given in the role.
