Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
I am being trained to lead one of the largest quantitative surveys in HMRC, where in my day-to-day role I attend meetings, take notes, work with external contractors, complete QA tasks and better my skills in data analysis. I often attend internal and external training such as R software training or in house CustomerLab.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
I enjoy my work side, I have found the way the uni conducts itself quite stressful.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
I learn something new everyday from my work, whether that be new software or bettering my people skills.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
3/5
Work is greatly organised giving me plenty of opportunities, however the uni completely falls short.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
My team are so supportive, I couldn't have asked for a better line manager.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
2/5
The support is intermittent, it has taken a long time to set up a basic structure and often when you ask for help the admin team are equally as stumped.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
2/5
I learn most from my day-to-day role, not the training provider.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5
I often organise events at work myself, but also the civil service has a great range of activities.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Government Social Research to a friend?
Yes
Why?
With this being my first professional job I couldn't have asked for a better welcome with so much support and welcome.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Government Social Research?
Apply to as many things as possible to get experience of the process, regardless even if you get a role that you're not 100% sure off there are so many different opportunities once you're in as well as most job recruitment being internal.
