Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
I am an environmental apprentice within Kier Design, I have an ecological role which involves looking after UK wildlife including protected species such as bats, badgers, newts. I carry out surveys prior to construction of highways/rail/local council schemes and write follow up reports based on survey findings.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
The degree programme covers a range of topics that sometimes do not link to the job role at all, however, this can be good to gain experience that I would not otherwise gain at work. I am at Keele University 1/2 weeks per year during the course and the rest has been delivered online.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
I have definitely learnt new skills whilst carrying out my apprenticeship. this is a corporate job role so balancing my uni and work/life balance has been key to success.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
I am in the first cohort if my degree apprenticeship course. The majority of the time things are well structured with module dates/deadlines being given with plenty of notice.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
Whenever I ask for time to do uni work time is set aside for me to do this and my colleagues help review assignments before submission.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
Always available for any questions I have regarding studies and assignments.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
5/5
Assignment skills have helped to improve my report writing skills at work and develop as an environmental professional.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
There are always opportunities including 6/7 a side football on Thursday evening after being in the office.
