Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
Working in 9 different teams and business areas over the 3 year course. This ranges from business support to operations based roles - some areas require you to wear PPE and go on the shop floor, others are more office based - you get a complete scope of the business. Daily, I work on a number of projects (ie refurbing an area, or for eg sorting tool storage, developing a business case to buy new tools, cabinets, gathering quotes to footprint the area, getting processes written as procedures and having Health and safety assessments done...) - each project has so many elements of learning to it which are then applicable to all areas. I also lead and attend meetings/presentations around our site, and work on involvement scheme (intrapreneurial employee idea scheme) ideas to push continuous improvement here at site. As well as day-to-day work, we study at uni one day a week and complete some of this work in our own time.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I love the programme - i didn't know where i wanted to have a final job role in prior to joining airbus. so being able to gain so much experience in different placements is amazing. If you don't enjoy a placement, its not forever! and then you learn that it is not for you and move onto the next.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
I have massively develped my presentation skills, confidence, and time management since joining. We are rated for each placement on personal development and given advice on how we can improve our own skills

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
5/5
Very. a dedicated team of early careers managers, as well as placement manager for each placement. there are many feedback channels, buddy system, and software where our progress is tracked and we can give anonymous feedback about our placement for Airbus to improve and act off. There is a very clear structure of placements and system of settling in / presenting to the team your achievements to ensure they recognise progress, as well as weekly 1-1 meetings with placement manager.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
Frequent 1-1's, free occupational health physio etc, free counselling service etc - very well supported.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
We are at Uni day release one day a week. if we are struggling to complete work in time at home, a discussion with placement manager and you can do some at work - its all about time management. Our trainign provider at coleg cambria is fantastic and works very closely with Airbus to ensure unity.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
5/5
As i study business, it is a custom Swansea Uni course of 'applied business management' (delivered at coleg cambria) so in every assignment it uses real world business examples. These are so applicable to airbus so most of the time you study and can see it directly in work!!
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
Yes, we have GenA (early careers group) - football, badminton, runs, nights out etc weekly as well as work held charity events. There is also a gym on site and for a reduced fee, colleagues and I frequently go after work together.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Airbus to a friend?
Yes
Why?
It is such a structured, proven course with so much support and also cudos from Swansea University.. and the worlds largest plane manufacturer! There is so much scope to try different business areas - you might find you like something you never knew existed!!!
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Airbus?
Act yourself, don't put on a face as they employ the right person that is going to have to be that way for years. Show you're mature and can manage your time, as well as confidently but politely speak to stakeholders and argue your case respectfully if you don't believe in a group agreement. Integrity and safety is a massive factor!!
