Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
Working on our APIs, microservices, etc. in AWS/GCP using Terraform (Infrastructure as Code), Go, Python, etc.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I'm learning a lot at work by working with my colleagues who are super friendly and patient. Plenty of time has been allocated for study, including the AWS Cloud Practitioner exam and internal training tasks. The university, Blackpool and the Fylde college, is generally good but we have some gripes including strange usage of canvas (e.g., not removing template modules) sometimes causing confusion.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
My knowledge of python, Go, collaboration, and industry standard tools like GitHub and the cloud have been greatly expanded.
I came into the program with little to no knowledge of cloud and now have my AWS Cloud Practitioner certification and am starting to work on my own small projects for the team using Go/python alongside AWS' services.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
In the first year, we are mostly only covering things anyone with a technical background would be mostly aware of other than the academic writing/presenting side of things. But this is great for people who don't have a technical background
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
There are usually at least 1 or 2 social events per month which I can attend to work on cyber security challenges, raspberry pi projects, just spend time with other graduates/apprentices, etc. There are also frequent sports matches, self-guided training days, etc.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Vodafone to a friend?
Yes
Why?
Very flexible working days/hours. As long as you get your work done, no one minds when or where you do it. Most people only come in 2 days a week but that's for an average number of days in the office over the course of a month.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Vodafone?
For the apprenticeship scheme, the most important part is your knowledge of the Spirit behaviours and culture. A basic understanding of python is helpful but the bar for technical knowledge required is quite low. Just make sure to show you can work dynamically, work with others, and are passionate about what you're going in to.
