Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
As a nursery apprentice i works in an early years setting while training towards a childcare qualification. On a day-to-day basis, I support children aged in all rooms from ages 3 months to 5 years by helping with care routines such as feeding, nappy changing, and nap times, as well as setting up and joining in play activities that support learning and development. I ensure the environment is safe, clean, and engaging, follow safeguarding and health and safety procedures, and work closely with the staff and parents. As well as my practical work, I complete coursework and build a portfolio as part of their apprenticeship training.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
I would rate my experience as a nursery apprentice a 4 out of 5. I really enjoy working with the children and seeing their development, especially when they learn new skills or gain confidence. It is rewarding to be part of their early learning journey and to build positive relationships with them and the staff team. Although the role can be busy and sometimes challenging, overall I find it a positive and fulfilling experience that has helped me grow both personally and professionally.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
I have learnt many new skills and developed existing ones throughout my apprenticeship. I have improved my communication skills by working closely with children, parents, and staff, and I have gained a better understanding of child development and safeguarding procedures. I have also become more confident in planning activities, observing children’s progress, and supporting their individual needs. Overall, I feel that my skills and confidence have grown significantly.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
The apprenticeship is generally well organised, with clear expectations, regular support from my assessor, and structured coursework to complete alongside my practical work. I feel that the training links well to my day-to-day role in the nursery. Occasionally there can be busy periods where balancing work and assignments feels challenging, but overall the programme is well planned and supportive.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
4/5
I am given regular guidance from senior staff and my manager, who are approachable and willing to help if I have questions or need advice. They support me with my training and give me opportunities to develop my skills in practice. At times it can be busy, which means support is not always immediate, but overall I feel well supported in my role.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
I am provided clear guidance on assignments, regular progress reviews, and helpful feedback that supports my development. My assessor is approachable and always available to answer questions or explain anything I am unsure about. The support sessions help me stay on track with my coursework and feel confident in working towards my qualification.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
5/5
The apprenticeship has helped me develop a strong understanding of child development, safeguarding, and effective practice, which I apply daily in my role. The knowledge I gain through my training provider links directly to my work in the nursery, helping me plan activities, support children’s individual needs, and reflect on my practice. Overall, it has increased my confidence and ability to perform my role to a high standard.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
3/5
There are some extra-curricular activities available, such as occasional staff social events and team meetings, which help build positive relationships within the workplace. However, opportunities like sports teams or regular networking events are limited. While there are some chances to get involved outside of daily duties, there could be more variety offered.

I would recommend the apprenticeship to a friend because it provides valuable hands-on experience while gaining a recognised qualification at the same time. It allows you to earn while you learn, develop important skills such as communication and teamwork, and build confidence in a real working environment. The role is rewarding, especially seeing children grow and develop, and it offers good opportunities for future career progression within early years education.

I would advise others applying for kids planet to be enthusiastic, patient, and open to learning. It’s important to show a genuine interest in working with children and supporting their development. Be prepared to work hard, as balancing practical work with coursework can be challenging at times. Good time management and organisation skills will really help.
