Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.

Working in a cell group on a manufacturing in a steel works. I completed daily tasks with my colleagues and worked side by side with my employers. I attended in person / online meetings, these were held on site, off site and on Microsoft teams. I used my problem solving skills on a daily basis to help in unprecedented manufacturing issues.
I also used many different applications such as; SAP, Microsoft 365 and monitoring software(SKF & EMG).

Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?

In the placement I was given many responsibilities which helped me with my skills, one of these responsibilities were overseeing the work was done on the manufacturing line.

Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?

The skills I developed over this placement were my communication skills, working with others, use of software, practical knowledge in manufacturing / electrical engineering, theoretical knowledge in manufacturing / electrical engineering, health and safely. By working with my colleagues who have worked in this industry for years, I have gained a lot of knowledge from them as they’ve had a lot of experience in this type of role / skill.

Support and Guidance

How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?

I received a lot of guidance and support whilst I was working in TATA Steel by having regular meetings with my employers on how I was doing throughout the time I was there.
