Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
My role at the time of the apprenticeship was "Apprentice Baker" and now that I am fully qualified, I am a "Market Street Baker". I still partake in tasks that I used to do before the apprenticeship but I now understand how, when and why we do it to a greater extent. I am now able to bake bread from scratch and serve hundreds of customers that come into our store. I can advise customers on their own personal baking adventures and further develop my own! I am allowed to be creative within a framework and take lead on the production planning for the day.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I have always loved baking from being small, so to be able to do something I love everyday was incredible. I was able to learn about such a wide variety of baking techniques, machinery used and finishing techniques to really make the baked goods stand out. To learn about something that I was already so passionate about was truly a great experience. I would 100% recommend going for this apprenticeship if you are the same.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
I would definitely say that my baking skills have improved! I now know about why certain baked goods are produced a different way and how to achieve the desired look, taste and texture. I know how to make products stand out and how to enhance them further. I can make a range of products with confidence.
Not only did I greatly develop my baking skills, I also further developed behavioural skills too. I became more confident in what I was selling to customers and how I communicated with colleagues. I know about different food safety laws and regulations, why they are there and how to be compliant with them.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
5/5
I felt that the organisation of the course was very well done. I had a direct line of contact with my training mentors (both internal and external) and my line manager was there to oversee everything that went on. My external training mentor was able to work around my work schedule and I knew that I would meet with him at least once a month to cover new topics.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
My line manager was there to oversee everything and if I had any queries I knew that I could go to her. If I felt that I needed extra time with my internal training mentor, she would schedule that in.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
During my apprenticeship, I had a direct line of contact to my external training mentor and I knew I could go to him at any time I needed. Closer to my exams, I could contact him at any time to arrange revision sessions or ask questions about things I wasn't certain of. I also had extra support from the 'support team' to go over revision techniques, exam stresses and next steps. I felt that I couldn't have gotten any more support than they gave me!
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
5/5
Gaining my qualification has helped me perform better in every way. I now understand more about my role than I did before which has helped my colleagues and I to achieve more as a team. I can perform tasks that I wasn't able to before and I can understand better why we perform these tasks.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
3/5
There aren't many activities that you can get involved with in a daily/weekly time period. Around Christmas, there a few activities that you can get involved in such as the work Christmas party or the Christmas buffet etc.
