Overview of Role
Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
My role was in the Process Control and Automation department, where I would work on monitoring solutions using a new technology for site, LoRaWAN. This entails, finding out what can be monitored, how to monitor it, test the solutions and then rollout solutions into the plant areas
Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
After I settled in to the industry, I started working with another Engineer on a monitoring solution that worked on the network protocol LoRaWAN. On the Port Talbot site, we were the only 2 people to be working on it, which was quite a responsibility.

Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
I have learned many skills in my time here, including PLC Programming, network interfacing and researching skills. I have also massively improved my presentation skills and confidence, which has helped me to work better in teams and to get my point across

I had loads of support and guidance, I had up to daily chats with my mentor as well as weekly meetings, and a monthly 1 to 1/performance review

Pretty good, although there are many massive moving parts, so sometimes it can take some time to get things rolling

I very much enjoyed my placement, I was put into a department which aligns with my interests which has helped in both my knowledge and enjoyment

It is a very big company with a lot of opportunities, moving internally seems easy enough if you fancied it. And with the wide range of plant areas, there is bound to be something that interests you
