Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
I work as a Kitchen Team Member at Premier Inn Haydock Park. My day-to-day role involves preparing and cooking food for guests (specifically breakfast service), managing kitchen cleanliness, and ensuring high standards of food safety. The role also involves monitoring waste and inventory to ensure efficiency in the kitchen. Through the apprenticeship, I am learning to understand the wider business context, such as how productivity and new menu ideas can improve the guest experience.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I have thoroughly enjoyed my time on this programme. It has allowed me to grow from just doing my daily tasks to understanding the business and hospitality industry as a whole.
However, the main reason for my success and enjoyment is my coach. He has been absolutely amazing; he is supportive, knowledgeable, and always there when I need help. I can honestly say I wouldn't be where I am today, or have the confidence I do now, if it wasn't for him. He is an asset to the training provider and deserves the highest praise.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
Yes, I have developed a wide range of new skills. Beyond improving my practical kitchen abilities, I have learned how to look at the business from a management perspective. For example, I have developed skills in identifying revenue opportunities, understanding food costs, and planning new menu concepts to reduce waste. My coach has been excellent in helping me build these professional skills, teaching me how to structure my ideas and present them confidently to my employer.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
5/5
The structure of the programme is excellent. I always have a clear understanding of my timeline, assessment windows, and what is expected of me for key tasks like the Business Project. The support I receive is outstanding, particularly from my coach. He is incredibly organised and ensures I never miss a deadline. He goes above and beyond to make sure I understand the requirements and feel supported every step of the way. I never feel lost because I know I can count on his guidance.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
To be honest, I have struggled with the support from my employer regarding my apprenticeship hours. I have not been given the allocated 'off-the-job' training time during my work rota. As a result, I have been completing my apprenticeship work in my own free time, unpaid, which has been difficult to manage alongside my shifts. While I enjoy the job itself, the lack of allocated study time within working hours is a major issue.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
I honestly can’t rate the support high enough. As I mentioned, my tutor has been a massive help. He’s always available when I’m stuck or need things explained differently. I wouldn’t be doing this well without him pushing me and helping me out. He’s a credit to the provider and makes the whole experience much better.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
5/5
It’s definitely helped me do my job better. I’m not just cooking anymore; I’m thinking about food waste, profit margins, and how to make the guest experience better. The course has given me the confidence to spot problems in the kitchen - like our breakfast rush issue - and actually come up with proper solutions to fix them.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
The team environment in the kitchen is okay, but due to the lack of time given for my coursework, I haven't had much opportunity to focus on anything other than my shifts and catching up on my studies.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Lifetime Training to a friend?
Yes
Why?
I would 100% recommend Lifetime Training, primarily because of the incredible support I have received from my coach. He has been the key to my success on this course. He goes above and beyond to ensure I understand the material and stay on track with my targets. His guidance has given me so much confidence in my role and helped me develop real professional skills. If you get a tutor as dedicated and knowledgeable, this apprenticeship is an amazing opportunity for career growth.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Lifetime Training?
My biggest piece of advice is to build a strong relationship with your tutor and not be afraid to ask for help. The support system at Lifetime Training is excellent if you engage with it. My coach was my greatest resource; he made even the difficult parts of the course manageable. If you have a tutor like mine, trust their guidance and communicate with them regularly - they are there to ensure you succeed and will help you reach your full potential.
