Winter Vacation Scheme Student Review

During the 5 day winter vacation scheme, you are kept busy with seminars on different practice areas and work from your trainer. Usually the seminars were during the first half of the day and you have time with your trainer during the second half of the day. There is also plenty of time to go and network with people in your team or across different teams at the firm, and this is something that my trainer really encouraged me to do. This means a lot of your day is spent talking to new people and learning about all of the different types of work they do.

It was really interesting learning about the work my trainer did, and you really get to learn a lot as you are sat with them for several hours each day. The seminars are also very informative, and despite the fact they are only an hour or so long each, they give you a solid foundational understanding of each practice area and what the firm does.

I learnt the basics of drafting a document to be sent to a client, and definitely developed my AI skills through the AI tasks we were set each day. This developed my prompt engineering, and understanding how to get the most out of AI.

Everyone at the firm is very welcoming and very kind, which created a great atmosphere to work in from day one. Most people dress smart casual and that really helps create a comfortable atmosphere where you feel like you can really be yourself.

I thoroughly enjoyed it. The team I was sat in (Debt Finance) had a lot of social events throughout the week, so I got to know my team quite well. I also found the work interesting and the Thursday night dinner at Gaucho's was definitely a highlight.

Make sure to be yourself. Obviously work hard and really prepare for the assessment centre, as it is difficult, however make sure to also be yourself as I believe the firm really values your ability to perform while being comfortable enough to show your personality.
