Overview of the Role

Overall, how would you describe your experience at BAE Systems?
Overall i would describe it as good. The benefits are good, the managers are helpful and try their best to help, the induction was good. However, i would say the company needs to advertise exactly what role you will be going into earlier as there are many grads who are unhappy with the role they have been placed within.
What are the main responsibilities of the role and which elements of the role do you enjoy the most?
I enjoy learning more about the different areas of the aircraft, working with many teams and disciplines.
To what extent does your role give you the opportunity to contribute meaningfully and feel valued by your team?
3/5
So far its been a slow start, but my manager tries to give me increasingly challenging work and is there to assist so i can learn quickly. Sometimes however its hard in the slow times when you feel like there isn't enough work to keep you occupied for the entire work week.
How does your compensation package - including perks & benefits - fairly remunerate you for the work you do?
5/5
The compensation package is great. I feel its fair for the work and level of qualifications we have, beating many other graduate schemes with their benefits. I feel BAE need to shout more about the benefits on offer as some came as a happy surprise to me.
How well do you feel the role is preparing you for your future career?
3/5
For now i feel like I've got a foot in the door. I'm not sure if what i'm doing now is something i want to do for the rest of my career, However, bae encourage networking and working in other fields. I do wish they would rotate the roles you're placed in as its frustrating to be stuck somewhere you have no interest in. Furthermore, stretch assignments should be more available.
How would you rate the extent to which you were developing new or existing skills through formal training and your day-to-day role?
2/5
I have 2 years mechanical engineering experience before joining bae. I feel like this has not been taken into consideration by the company and instead i have just been placed in a random role as a stop gap that has nothing to do with my abilities.
As for the new role however, i feel it is mostly on the job training, there's no training resources that can really train for that. The management and other members of my team however have been extremely useful and helpful and i feel confident going to them for support.

Experience & Company Culture

How is the support you receive?
4/5
Line manager support is very good, however hr and early careers seem to be too busy to offer much support to us graduates.
How is your work-life balance?
4/5
It is pretty good, feel like the hours are fair and flexible and holidays are decent. Maybe a 4 day week could be looked at in the future?
What is the organisational culture, values and general atmosphere like?
5/5
Culture is good, everyone's helpful and professional. Hybrid working is in place for non security restricted roles and is often at the line managers discretion.
How would you rate BAE Systems initiatives when it comes to equality, diversity, inclusion and accessibility?
5/5
good.
How would you rate BAE Systems CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) initiatives?
5/5

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend BAE Systems to a friend?
Yes
Why?
The compensation and benefits definitely make BAE a great company to work for. That said however, work is definitely needed capturing individual skills from university and past work experience. There is so much talent that has been brought into the company in early careers, but i feel like its all being wasted currently with people in the incorrect positions.
How well did the role match your expectations based on the recruitment process?
3/5
N/A
When considering the recruitment & onboarding process, have you any specific tips or advice you would give to others applying to BAE Systems?
Do your research on the company, the planes and the heritage. Show a real passion for the field.
