Overview of the Role

Overall, how would you describe your experience at BAE Systems?
Very positive, flexible working arrangements, great work-life balance. Strong focus on graduate support/development/training etc. Provides a lot of useful recourses to manage your early career. Everyone I have interacted with has been extremely willing to help/take time out their day to speak with me. Positive environment to work in.
What are the main responsibilities of the role and which elements of the role do you enjoy the most?
Stakeholder management/engagement.
Engineering Interface management.
Following and implementing integration processes.
To what extent does your role give you the opportunity to contribute meaningfully and feel valued by your team?
4/5
My current role is lacking in making engineering based decisions/understanding and is more focused on following procedures and administrative tasks. Most key decisions fall to system owners and sometimes my work makes me feel like a middle man and not much more in certain circumstances. Overall the work i have done so far has been rewarding and interesting.
How does your compensation package - including perks & benefits - fairly remunerate you for the work you do?
4/5
Overtime, TOIL, salary sacrifice options (health care etc), sick pay 3 weeks, income protection. Base pay could be better.
How well do you feel the role is preparing you for your future career?
5/5
Very well, giving me a good understanding of the working systems and=styles of BAE systems. Good exposure to a number of different stakeholders helping me build my network. Strong investment in training/ mentoring etc, feeling very valued as a graduate and not just made to do boring tasks. Trips offsite and exposure to seeing the product up close are all helping me paint a picture of roles I am interested in beyond the graduate scheme.
How would you rate the extent to which you were developing new or existing skills through formal training and your day-to-day role?
5/5
I don't think there is a better graduate scheme to be on in terms of training/support/development.

Experience & Company Culture

How is the support you receive?
5/5
Can't fault it, feels like people genuinely care about your development.
How is your work-life balance?
5/5
Flexi-working, toil, bank holidays, buy-sell annual leave, half day on Fridays. Can't complain.
What is the organisational culture, values and general atmosphere like?
4/5
Overall positive experience, some teams have different rules for remote working so this needs to be discussed with specific line managers rather than a general rule across the company. This can cause a feeling of unfairness between teams.
How would you rate BAE Systems initiatives when it comes to equality, diversity, inclusion and accessibility?
5/5
I was off work for surgery, the company re-introduced me into the workplace seamlessly offering me physio classes for my recovery. This is my only experience in this instance but it was positive.
How would you rate BAE Systems CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) initiatives?
5/5
BAE Systems Submarines engage with the community regularly, running workshops for young children and investing across the barrow area etc.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend BAE Systems to a friend?
Yes
Why?
For all the reasons previously mentioned.
How well did the role match your expectations based on the recruitment process?
3/5
Role appeared to have a greater engineering focus that what it does in reality.
When considering the recruitment & onboarding process, have you any specific tips or advice you would give to others applying to BAE Systems?
Be patient but call to ask for updates on your application. My application took a long time having to wait two months from my final interview to receiving the offer. In this time I phoned regularly seeking updates. I worked a entirely different job for 6 months in between submitting my initial application and starting my role. Expect to wait.
