Overview of the Role

Overall, how would you describe your experience at BAE Systems?
Very positive, all staff are positive and are keen to help with my personal development. I have a mix between hands on and office based working with the hybrid flexibility to work from home when required or suited. I have regular meeting with my direct manager to discuss my progression and skills.
What are the main responsibilities of the role and which elements of the role do you enjoy the most?
I get to be both hands on with server infrastructure and learn about software. My main projects are a mix between different challenges which is good for my development to get breadth. I have also done studies into data analysis for the company and contribute to improving entire programmes through their life.
To what extent does your role give you the opportunity to contribute meaningfully and feel valued by your team?
5/5
I get the opportunity to lead, contribute and see my impact with work I've done going into business programmes which are well known by employees.
How does your compensation package - including perks & benefits - fairly remunerate you for the work you do?
4/5
I think this area could be better. I am happy with the compensation but towards of the end of the scheme I felt technically qualified to receive a slightly higher salary due to the kind of work and role I was doing. There is no performance related increases during the scheme only rises due to inflation which is very positive however.
How well do you feel the role is preparing you for your future career?
5/5
I feel the role has given me good clarity on not only what is a business interest but commonly aligns with growing demand for computing in the world especially in the area of AI, data centres and computing.
How would you rate the extent to which you were developing new or existing skills through formal training and your day-to-day role?
5/5
I have been able to write my own proposals and progress new skills through from adoption to completion where I have been interested and it aligns with company goals. Mentorship is strongly encouraged I have taken advantage of this both technically and from a corporate perspective.

Experience & Company Culture

How is the support you receive?
5/5
Mentorship is encouraged with different types of mentors, I have been a buddy and had a buddy. My line manager is supportive we also have business support on site, IT support and HR support which ahs all been positive.
How is your work-life balance?
4/5
I feel as though my commute is a little far as I commute outside of London but I still managed to juggle everything and never feel as though I am missing out.
What is the organisational culture, values and general atmosphere like?
5/5
Culture and vision is clear I have had business strategy explained to me by the people who made the business strategy for my section of the business.

5/5
We have an accessible site as well as inclusive groups free for anyone to join around diversity equality and inclusion.

5/5
Every employee will take a course on sustainability in the workplace as well as employees are encouraged to become STEM ambassadors for younger generations as well as providing support during work experience and outreach.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend BAE Systems to a friend?
Yes
Why?
I think their graduate scheme is a great way to be paid to learn and really hit the ground running.
How well did the role match your expectations based on the recruitment process?
4/5
I only had a high level description but there was no expectations on the start of my scheme to have prior knowledge of the specific toolsets more the willingness to learn.
When considering the recruitment & onboarding process, have you any specific tips or advice you would give to others applying to BAE Systems?
Yes use STAR during the interview process. The questions are more about how you approach the problem logically rather than giving a correct answer.
