Overview of the Role
Overall, how would you describe your experience at BAE Systems?
Feel very fortunate to have secured a place on the Graduate Scheme. The role is not the right fit long term and it is very different to what i applied for. Overall, BAE as a company is a great place to work and i understand there are so many opportunities with career progression when progressing forwards in the company.
What are the main responsibilities of the role and which elements of the role do you enjoy the most?
The main responsibilities of the role is advising managers and SLT within the IM&T function and completing functional activities for that area. Dual reporting into two line managers has given me both a strategic and technical viewpoint of the business and exposure to programmes that i wouldn't get, if reporting into one line manager. I also link into the Global Digital Academy which is where we look to upskill colleagues with digital skills.

I feel that having a graduate tag at times can be limiting.

I don't feel that i am having formal training. It is more on the job learning and picking things up as i go.

How is the support you receive?

The support i have received so far has been really positive. The majority of this has come from outside of my team, from Early Careers, Buddy and Mentors within the company.
How is your work-life balance?

My workload balance is great.
I'm usually in the office 4 days a week.
Dual reporting can feel heavy at times due to both line managers wanting me to prioritise workloads.

Why?
It is a great company to work for, the reputation of BAE is well known within the North West and it is highly competitive to get into as a company. The team and line manager that you have makes a huge impact on your day to day well being, it is important this is a good fit when starting in the business. I feel more support should be given to those Graduates who feel uncomfortable in their role and wishing to have a move.
