Overview of the Role
Overall, how would you describe your experience at BAE Systems?
I am having a fantastic experience as a graduate with BAE Systems. I felt I was given the right amount of autonomy and responsibility from day one, and I am trusted to do my job well. I receive lots of high quality training and development opportunities whilst on scheme. I also have been given lots of pastoral support and feel like I have a network I can go to for any concerns.
What are the main responsibilities of the role and which elements of the role do you enjoy the most?
Working on an engineering project completing technical tasks, managing budgets, producing documentation and reports, liaising with external and internal customers, attending research events and managing others. Of these I enjoy liaising with external customers the most as I feel proud that I am trusted to represent the business.
To what extent does your role give you the opportunity to contribute meaningfully and feel valued by your team?

I have lots of responsibility and autonomy and am treated like a member of the team.
How does your compensation package - including perks & benefits - fairly remunerate you for the work you do?

Good pay, flexi leave or pay, shares scheme, insurance schemes and on site subsidised food and drink. Of these I think the shares scheme is most valuable as it is a significant financial benefit.
How well do you feel the role is preparing you for your future career?

I have received lots of training and development opportunities to build my engineering competence.
How would you rate the extent to which you were developing new or existing skills through formal training and your day-to-day role?

I have received lots of high quality formal training, as well as on the job mentorship and external coaching to support me.

How is the support you receive?

I have a supportive line manager, as well as a supportive mentor, coach and buddy (3 separate people). We also have a graduate pastoral team who support us well with any concerns.
How is your work-life balance?

I get flexi leave if I go over my 37 hours, I also get to work from home 2 days per week and I have a flexible working pattern so can start early/late and finish early/late. I feel supported to leave work early for any external commitments (family etc.)
What is the organisational culture, values and general atmosphere like?

The culture is very inclusive and welcoming. However as a female engineer I do feel underrepresented in the business.
How would you rate BAE Systems initiatives when it comes to equality, diversity, inclusion and accessibility?

There are numerous initiatives and groups to improve this. I think there is more to be done to support female engineers as the company is very male dominated.
How would you rate BAE Systems CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) initiatives?
5/5
There are lots of opportunities to volunteer, and the business gives you both unpaid and paid leave to do so. There is also lots of charity work completed by the business.
