Overview of the Role

Overall, how would you describe your experience at BAE Systems?
Excellent, the accelerate graduate scheme provides ample opportunities to progress both professionally and personally.
What are the main responsibilities of the role and which elements of the role do you enjoy the most?
I am a Design Engineer, implementing engineering changes using CAD. Outside of the day job I have completed many other courses and 'stretch assignments' to strengthen my professional portfolio.
To what extent does your role give you the opportunity to contribute meaningfully and feel valued by your team?
5/5
I am in a small team of around 8, and contribute evenly to the workload. As my skillset expands I am given more complex and challenging work, always with the appropriate level of support.
How does your compensation package - including perks & benefits - fairly remunerate you for the work you do?
5/5
In my opinion, the awards package is excellent. We use a "FLEX" portal to manage our perks and benefits which can be selected to suit us. I intend to use the companies green car scheme in the future.
How well do you feel the role is preparing you for your future career?
5/5
Despite only being at the company for 10 months, I feel that I have developed both my technical skills in my role, but also through the graduate personal effectiveness training days that we have every few months.
How would you rate the extent to which you were developing new or existing skills through formal training and your day-to-day role?
5/5
I feel like it is a mix, as a design engineer, I have had to do mandatory training (both internal and external) to be able to use the CAD software, this was structured and good training. I feel like these courses are then backed up by great support whilst in my role to develop those foundational skills into producing quality work.

Experience & Company Culture

How is the support you receive?
5/5
All good - so many options to seek support.
How is your work-life balance?
5/5
We have flexi time, I can work really flexible hours and from home up to 3 days per week.
What is the organisational culture, values and general atmosphere like?
5/5
How would you rate BAE Systems initiatives when it comes to equality, diversity, inclusion and accessibility?
5/5
How would you rate BAE Systems CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) initiatives?
4/5

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend BAE Systems to a friend?
Yes
Why?
It has an excellent pay and reward package, brilliant day-to-day support and work life balance. Plus I am very invested in what we do for UK defence.
How well did the role match your expectations based on the recruitment process?
4/5
I think this is one area which they are not brilliant - particularly for engineering, which is split into Airframe, Systems, Integration (and a few others). - I think these are too broad, I selected airframe, and luckily got design, but it could have been a whole host of other roles that I wouldn't have enjoyed.
When considering the recruitment & onboarding process, have you any specific tips or advice you would give to others applying to BAE Systems?
Be yourself and believe in the cause!
