Overview of the Role

Overall, how would you describe your experience at BAE Systems?
I'm really enjoying working for BAE - the work is always interesting, challenging and rewarding. I've been at the company just over a year and had many opportunities to get involved in all aspects of my team's work. I'm always learning new things whilst getting to support some of our most important national defence projects.
What are the main responsibilities of the role and which elements of the role do you enjoy the most?
The most enjoyable part is running tests on equipment and writing technical reports.
To what extent does your role give you the opportunity to contribute meaningfully and feel valued by your team?
5/5
As a graduate, I've already been given opportunity to take a lead role on a project, and help support several other projects. It feels like I've been given meaningful work from the start.
How does your compensation package - including perks & benefits - fairly remunerate you for the work you do?
3/5
The benefits scheme is not particularly exciting - you can opt-in to things like medical insurance and get money off vouchers for various shops.
How well do you feel the role is preparing you for your future career?
4/5
There's a good amount of training etc on the grad scheme about career growth and development.
How would you rate the extent to which you were developing new or existing skills through formal training and your day-to-day role?
4/5
Definitely developing new skills on-the-job, formal training is good but can be hard to get a place on sometimes.

Experience & Company Culture

How is the support you receive?
3/5
Support within my team is really good, but early careers/HR feel a lot more distant.
How is your work-life balance?
5/5
I work flexi-time so can decide when to come in and leave. I'm in the office every day but can request to work from home on occasions if I need to.
What is the organisational culture, values and general atmosphere like?
5/5
BAE is genuinely an inclusive and welcoming place and the company is doing a lot to try and drive up the safety culture too.
How would you rate BAE Systems initiatives when it comes to equality, diversity, inclusion and accessibility?
4/5
How would you rate BAE Systems CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) initiatives?
5/5
The company does a lot in the local town, including supporting community events and local schools. I get involved in STEM outreach work through the company.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend BAE Systems to a friend?
Yes
Why?
We get to work on some incredibly exciting defence projects, and solve some very technologically-complex problems, so it's an exciting space to be working in at the moment. But it's also a really welcoming, and inclusive company that genuinely wants to invest in new graduate talent and support your career development too.
How well did the role match your expectations based on the recruitment process?
4/5
When considering the recruitment & onboarding process, have you any specific tips or advice you would give to others applying to BAE Systems?
Make sure you research the role and understand what it involves - there's a lot of different job roles at BAE and many of them sound very similar too. Come up with examples of how you've developed the different skills the role is after, and also how you've shown our company values. Finally, in order to get to interview they often use online tests first, so practise some of those (most uni career services subscribe to practice-test platforms).
