Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.

Organising samples into different taxa. Species identification of invertebrates using keys in the lab.

Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?

Yes, I had to manage my own samples and data and also spent some time managing other students working on the same project ensuring they worked cohesively and effectively.

How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?

I recieved daily support when necessary whilst also allowing me to me to work on new skills independently. Both researchers spent time ensuring I knew what I was doing and was comfortable with new skills.

The atmosphere was relaxed and hardworking. I got to see what day to day life involves for someone in my chosen career.

Overall Experience

To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?

My internship was the most enjoyable professional experience so far. I felt well included and supported and rewarded from working in my aspired field. I felt proud of the work I accomplished and that’s it has set me up well for the future.
