Overview of the Role

Overall, how would you describe your experience at Unilever?
Loved it - got to do many different roles within the scheme so gained lots of experience. Made great friends, really enjoy the company culture
What are the main responsibilities of the role and which elements of the role do you enjoy the most?
Varied roles - planning, customer service, engineering, procurement, project managing. Loved being given real responsibility from the start. Enjoy engaging with different stakeholders and gaining a wider understanding of the business
To what extent does your role give you the opportunity to contribute meaningfully and feel valued by your team?
4/5
Some roles are better than other at getting you involved
How does your compensation package - including perks & benefits - fairly remunerate you for the work you do?
5/5
On top of base salary, have a very good pension packet. Also have a bonus scheme and share options, as well as discounts on unilever goods which is always handy.
How well do you feel the role is preparing you for your future career?
5/5
Gives me so much exposure to different roles, and allows me to build a great network
How would you rate the extent to which you were developing new or existing skills through formal training and your day-to-day role?
3/5
Not lots of formal training given although has started to improve. Could do with being able to do a few more courses eg lean 6 sigma

Experience & Company Culture

How is the support you receive?
4/5
Great support from a career sponsor who is with you throughout the scheme. Found different functions to be very good at supporting each other, there was always someone to go to. Line managers were the one thing that could make or break each placement, but feel like this is the nature of any role.
How is your work-life balance?
5/5
Great work life balance. Able to do lots outside of work - has schemes for reduced gym memberships which is helpful. Good holiday policy too
What is the organisational culture, values and general atmosphere like?
4/5
Good culture, had a dip when redundancies were taking place but always felt supported. People in general are lovely at the company. Hybrid policies for some roles - eg office based but in factory, expected to be in every day. Also have to move geographically with changing roles. So have been based in various places - London, Leeds, Liverpool
How would you rate Unilever initiatives when it comes to equality, diversity, inclusion and accessibility?
5/5
How would you rate Unilever CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) initiatives?
5/5
Lots of opportunities to volunteer at events

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Unilever to a friend?
Yes
Why?
Great culture, lovely people, good opportunities to work across the company on the scheme and gain knowledge in various areas of supply chain.
How well did the role match your expectations based on the recruitment process?
4/5
As expected, just a lack of formal training which is now being addressed. Need better career progression outline as it sometimes seems that it will be hard to move up in the company once you roll off the scheme, despite the label ' future leaders'.
When considering the recruitment & onboarding process, have you any specific tips or advice you would give to others applying to Unilever?
Read about the values of the company and really lean on them in the interview stages. Be yourself - things can be trained but it is important to show personality. Show ways of being agile and adaptable - you don't have long in roles so need to show you will be able to get stuck in and make an impact right away.
