Overview of the Role

Overall, how would you describe your experience at BAE Systems?
Great way to enter the industry with teams that make you feel welcome, ease you into work and treat you with respect.
A level of trust is given when you start, and working hours are flexible.
Benefits are great.
What are the main responsibilities of the role and which elements of the role do you enjoy the most?
Technical document authoring
To what extent does your role give you the opportunity to contribute meaningfully and feel valued by your team?
4/5
Sometimes you have to find work that is more than admin stuff, but if you seek out enjoyable tasks, they are there.
How does your compensation package - including perks & benefits - fairly remunerate you for the work you do?
5/5
high pay for grads, basically 6 weeks holiday a year, flexible working hours.
Pay stated does not include bonuses, but they are gien.
How well do you feel the role is preparing you for your future career?
5/5
Pretty well, coming off the scheme this week and i feel prepared to continue the work that i am doing, as there is not a large jump- basically none at all. By definition then i am prepared for my current role.
Fr the future, a lot of support is gives, with emphasis on developing both as an engineer and as a person in industry, for example dealing with difficult conversations etc.
How would you rate the extent to which you were developing new or existing skills through formal training and your day-to-day role?
4/5
When i started i didnt know how to do this job, now i have a pretty good grasp. Was given the chance to explore ideas for solutions etc, and can essentially target any skills you would liek to develop through different optional programmes

Experience & Company Culture

How is the support you receive?
4/5
Individual team support was great, EC was a little more boilerplate and less personalised due to the nature of standardised training throughout intakes, with trail and error on what training works with different intakes. I myself went though early training that would widely be considered as an error, but as soon as the mandatory stuff tapered off and i could personalise it to myu own it became better.
How is your work-life balance?
5/5
Fine- when i go home i switch off. I can take a shorter day if needed, just need to make up the hours.
But then again i know of others that cannot do this, but its a skill.
No one in my knowledge is expecting you to work outside of standard hours, you just need to do your work within them. There are busy weeks which allow you to work extra, however there is little pressure to do so, as if the work doesnt get done, then it is a resourcing issue.
Can work from home whenever
What is the organisational culture, values and general atmosphere like?
4/5
Down in weymouth everyone is pretty chill. Up in other offices its a bit more formal.
Socials are really dictated by who is in weymouth at the time, because as weymouth is not that large, those that come to work here are likely to move to another office in the city.
How would you rate BAE Systems initiatives when it comes to equality, diversity, inclusion and accessibility?
4/5
havent really participated in these, as such cannot comment, however im aware they do exist and things often crop up in my calendar or emails regarding these.
How would you rate BAE Systems CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) initiatives?
4/5
Other than engagemnt activities with schools to raise engineering awareness, i cant really think of any off top of head, but people can if they want, the company wont really say no

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend BAE Systems to a friend?
Yes
Why?
High pay- pretty chill, flexible working with pretty good benefits. Opportunity to travel. Great introduction to industry with no immediate pressure.
How well did the role match your expectations based on the recruitment process?
4/5
Disnt really know what to expect, just needed a job
When considering the recruitment & onboarding process, have you any specific tips or advice you would give to others applying to BAE Systems?
Just be a nice person in the interviews, and just show passion for something.
