Overview of the Role

Overall, how would you describe your experience at BAE Systems?
BAE have been a great company to work for throughout the Graduate Scheme. Lots of opportunities to seek out work and contribute to the company outside of your day job. Exciting work, good environment and nice people.
What are the main responsibilities of the role and which elements of the role do you enjoy the most?
Main responsibilities of my role range from bidding for new work, monitoring and controlling projects throughout delivery and closing down historical taskings. Within this, no-day looks the same and the work covers multiple on-going projects and legacy taskings.
To what extent does your role give you the opportunity to contribute meaningfully and feel valued by your team?
5/5
BAE and the team nature of the work means everyone has hands to the pump providing a proper feeling of value for your contribution.
How does your compensation package - including perks & benefits - fairly remunerate you for the work you do?
4/5
BAE offers a wide breath of perks and benefits mainly focused on share options as well as cycle to work schemes, e-car schemes, health care and additional discounts across a number of goods.
How well do you feel the role is preparing you for your future career?
5/5
As stated, with no-day being the same and the sheer amount of work BAE gets through, within a year the amount of learning and experience taken on board is outstanding. They really let you get into it from day 1 and are always thinking about your future within the company with the amount of promotions and positions that are available.
How would you rate the extent to which you were developing new or existing skills through formal training and your day-to-day role?
5/5
Training is provided throughout, not just on the grad scheme, but promoted as advisory dependant and roles and future development. Day to day job allows you to learn a number of new skills combined with an ever changing political and defence landscape with new Defence standards and regulation adapting throughout.

Experience & Company Culture

How is the support you receive?
5/5
BAE are a very hands on company, from my own experiences, when it comes down to support given. From buddy's when you first start to mentorships offered to line manager catch ups weekly.
How is your work-life balance?
5/5
Having worked in sales before joining BAE systems, the work life balance is very good. Work hard throughout the week but work doesn't follow you home or on the weekends. Additionally due to the nature of the work, it can't be discussed or work taken abroad when you go on holidays.
What is the organisational culture, values and general atmosphere like?
5/5
From my own experience working within the southern sites and within ICS, the culture is very good with everyone happy to help and support one another and being accepting of home environments, kids, further commitments.
How would you rate BAE Systems initiatives when it comes to equality, diversity, inclusion and accessibility?
5/5
BAE make a real effort through ERG groups to promote an inclusive environment for all to prosper regularly putting on women only events, men's health clubs, LGBT in stem etc.
How would you rate BAE Systems CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) initiatives?
4/5
BAE to make an effort to promote Corporate Social Responsibility throughout the working culture. I do believe more could be done to alleviate food waste as a whole but enough time is given to employees who wish to involve themselves in volunteering and Shared Services do promote community action events across the southern sites (big sleep out).

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend BAE Systems to a friend?
Yes
Why?
Interesting work, great environment, nice people, shared cause.
How well did the role match your expectations based on the recruitment process?
4/5
Obviously they aren't able to inform you about everything that is involved in the day to day work you will be doing but the dynamics of the work are well explained.
When considering the recruitment & onboarding process, have you any specific tips or advice you would give to others applying to BAE Systems?
Try and focus on why you wish to work within the specific job you are applying for rather than just the company you are working for and why that role specifically caters to the skills/experience you have gained.
