Overview of the Role

Overall, how would you describe your experience at BAE Systems?
Overall I would say I have had a positive experience. The scheme is a bit long at 18 months for someone that has already done the 12 undergraduate internship.
What are the main responsibilities of the role and which elements of the role do you enjoy the most?
Main responsibilities include helping to develop and model aircraft systems. This includes system modelling, safety assessments, report writing, meetings and discussions with other stakeholders
To what extent does your role give you the opportunity to contribute meaningfully and feel valued by your team?
5/5
I'm effectively treated as a full engineer by my colleagues and the work I'm doing reflects that.
How does your compensation package - including perks & benefits - fairly remunerate you for the work you do?
4/5
BAE has a wide range of perks being a larger company. Not all of those apply to individuals earlier on in their career.
How well do you feel the role is preparing you for your future career?
5/5
BAE has a focus on developing younger engineers through training and challenging tasks, but this is dependent on the particular role.
How would you rate the extent to which you were developing new or existing skills through formal training and your day-to-day role?
5/5
Most learning is on the job with significant learning curves for most roles. A wide array of training is available from simple online courses to multi-week in person training. More expensive training will depend on business needs.

Experience & Company Culture

How is the support you receive?
4/5
Lot's of resources available, some of which I have used, some I haven't.
How is your work-life balance?
4/5
Hybrid working helps with the work-life balance and time off is encouraged.
What is the organisational culture, values and general atmosphere like?
3/5
General atmosphere can vary significantly depending on what area you find yourself working in. General culture and values are good and supportive.
How would you rate BAE Systems initiatives when it comes to equality, diversity, inclusion and accessibility?
3/5
The company has made significant progress in these areas, but being a large defence/engineering company there is definitely some progress to go. Many of the older buildings are not particularly accessible.
How would you rate BAE Systems CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) initiatives?
4/5

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend BAE Systems to a friend?
Yes
Why?
Decent pay, low cost of living, lots of meaningful work in the right areas.
How well did the role match your expectations based on the recruitment process?
2/5
I already knew what I was getting into due to being on the undergraduate scheme. However, the company typically doesn't tell you what you're going to be doing until you turn up, which can be a real pain.
When considering the recruitment & onboarding process, have you any specific tips or advice you would give to others applying to BAE Systems?
Getting some practice in is always helpful for these applications and tests. The recruitment/onboarding can take quite some time, so patience helps too.
