Overview of the Role
Overall, how would you describe your experience at BAE Systems?
Enjoyable and challenging. Manage to get exposure to a lot of areas of the business and opportunities to grow.
What are the main responsibilities of the role and which elements of the role do you enjoy the most?
My role has a good mix of both technical and practical elements. There's times that I may be involved in using a toolset and other times conducting strategic planning. Have developed a good understanding of system engineering and the stages of the product lifecylce.
To what extent does your role give you the opportunity to contribute meaningfully and feel valued by your team?

From the offset, my work contributed to furthering one of our projects. Have also been allocated a large project though at times feels slightly outside the remit of a graduate engineer. Also opportunities to get involved with local schools and the community along with other extra-curricular activities if I ever have less work (which isn't often).
How does your compensation package - including perks & benefits - fairly remunerate you for the work you do?

Loads of perks offered to all BAE employees such as discounts and different schemes. May also receive bonuses at the end of the year. Though these perks are often at a coorperate level and less so on an individual level (based on the work you do as an individual)
How well do you feel the role is preparing you for your future career?

Really well. Getting exposure to things that I will encounter when coming off the scheme.
How would you rate the extent to which you were developing new or existing skills through formal training and your day-to-day role?

Good mix of technical training and also personal growth. Compulsory personal development sessions are compulsory for those on the grad scheme and are quite useful. Also depending on role, can attend more technical training for your role.

I receive very good support from my line manager though this is dependent on who your line manager is. Have heard good and bad experiences.
How is your work-life balance?

Due to me relocating, have spent a lot of time finding the more "life" side outside of work. Have also taken on a lot of responsibility at work which also increases work load.
What is the organisational culture, values and general atmosphere like?

Very good culture, especially for such a big company. Emphasising inclusion of people and safety at work.

Able to get involved in supporting the local community. Also big awareness on environmental impact

Exposure to exciting projects and interesting people. Able to progress through the business in many different ways.

There was very little information given on what role I would be entering, partially because of security reasons. This could be better.

Be open to the different roles BAE as to offer.
