Overview of the Role

Overall, how would you describe your experience at BAE Systems?
An Excellent opportunity which has allowed me to gain additional qualifications and skills which I would definitely not have gained elsewhere. The support I have received from Managers and other staff has been excellent
What are the main responsibilities of the role and which elements of the role do you enjoy the most?
My role has consisted of Reviewing, performing and leading procedures to test a nuclear reactor. This has also involved problem solving challenges faced through the construction of nuclear reactors and supporting the royal navy in the delivery of nuclear submarines. I have also gone onto secondments in the nuclear engineering departments to support complex engineering sessions
To what extent does your role give you the opportunity to contribute meaningfully and feel valued by your team?
5/5
I feel like an active and productive member of my team with my responsibility growing in accordance with my ability. I feel enabled to contribute at all times
How does your compensation package - including perks & benefits - fairly remunerate you for the work you do?
5/5
The reference salary of 36,000 was already good but the contract included overtime and I have also engaged in shift work which has further increased my compensation. I can safely say I did not expect to be payed as well as I am
How well do you feel the role is preparing you for your future career?
5/5
I feel well prepared to create a strong career through opportunities presented to me by y graduate role and scheme and career guidance on the scheme I have found to be helpful
How would you rate the extent to which you were developing new or existing skills through formal training and your day-to-day role?
5/5
I undertook formal training on day release for the 1st year of my scheme and have undertaken many other courses throughout my time at BAE

Experience & Company Culture

How is the support you receive?
5/5
My line manger, mentors and Early career staff have been very supportive and I feel comfortable working at BAE
How is your work-life balance?
5/5
The culture at BAE has encouraged me to limit my working hours to my contractual obligations and I have only surpassed this voluntarily and have never been pressured to work more than my basic hours. I am able to start early and leave early on flexible working which allows me to leave work at 3pm most days
What is the organisational culture, values and general atmosphere like?
4/5
The organisation is making progress to develop a new and modern culture and promotes safety above all else which I value highly in a production environment
How would you rate BAE Systems initiatives when it comes to equality, diversity, inclusion and accessibility?
3/5
I have not engaged with any EDI initiatives due to my demographic therefore I feel I cannot comment however, the office culture is inclusive and generally has good disabled access
How would you rate BAE Systems CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) initiatives?
5/5
There have been several outreach programmes and I have participated in some. Many of these benefit the local area. There are also strong environmental initiatives and regulations we adhere to strictly

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend BAE Systems to a friend?
Yes
Why?
The graduate scheme has excellent benefits and it is clear to me that it is designed to encourage promotion and gaining responsibility with experience
How well did the role match your expectations based on the recruitment process?
4/5
I feel the recruitment process outlined the job well however, no interview process could have properly prepared me for what my role would entail
When considering the recruitment & onboarding process, have you any specific tips or advice you would give to others applying to BAE Systems?
I would encourage learning as much as possible about what the team your applying for does and how they operate. Understanding of how the role you are aiming for allows direct and strong answers
