Overview of the Role

Overall, how would you describe your experience at BAE Systems?
Overall, very good. I enjoy my work and get on well with my colleagues. The grad scheme does provide a supportive environment for grads fresh out of university.
What are the main responsibilities of the role and which elements of the role do you enjoy the most?
Liaise with system design teams to ensure that they are including safety-favourable characteristics into design. Report writing and performing analysis. I enjoy that I engage with lots of different people within my role.
To what extent does your role give you the opportunity to contribute meaningfully and feel valued by your team?
5/5
I am on a small team so inherited responsibility early within my role. This allowed me to contribute form the get go. The team-lead also provides good support to grads within the team.
How does your compensation package - including perks & benefits - fairly remunerate you for the work you do?
5/5
One of the best paid engineering grad schemes, good pension, share incentive scheme.
How well do you feel the role is preparing you for your future career?
4/5
Yes. However, the timescale of the programmes does mean you can get Pidgeon-holed sometimes. There is opportunity to move around if you so wish.
How would you rate the extent to which you were developing new or existing skills through formal training and your day-to-day role?
5/5
For Engineering in particular, the front loaded training is very useful to develop skills early doors. Day to day roles can vary. In my role I'd say my interpersonal, writing and organisational skills are being developed the most.

Experience & Company Culture

How is the support you receive?
5/5
The support I've received is very good, I think that's by virtue of the team I've been placed in.
How is your work-life balance?
5/5
We got flexible working, so work life balance is great.
What is the organisational culture, values and general atmosphere like?
4/5
Generally quite good. The after effect of hybrid work is that you may be on a team with members on other sites. However everyone is friendly and encouraging. As a grad, you start with a 'cohort' so there is always going to be familiar faces on the site you work at.
How would you rate BAE Systems initiatives when it comes to equality, diversity, inclusion and accessibility?
5/5
Lots of effort put into DE&I.
How would you rate BAE Systems CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) initiatives?
4/5
Haven't experienced myself but I'm aware that there is big investment into this.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend BAE Systems to a friend?
Yes
Why?
1. It pays very well.
2. Good career progression.
3. Plenty of graduates within the company as well.
How well did the role match your expectations based on the recruitment process?
5/5
I did apply for a specialism in engineering (safety), so it mapped quite well.
Some grads ended up in roles that were nothing to do with what they applied for.
When considering the recruitment & onboarding process, have you any specific tips or advice you would give to others applying to BAE Systems?
Do technical prep but also general prep. Lots of social scenario based questions.
