Overview of the Role

Overall, how would you describe your experience at Arm?
Amazing. The knowledge gained by working at the company has surpassed any other learning experience and their commitment to helping me progress is brilliant. The culture within the company is very inclusive and there are constantly social events going on throughout the year.
What are the main responsibilities of the role and which elements of the role do you enjoy the most?
I am constantly given meaningful work that directly impacts current projects.
I write code and receive reviews to improve them before merging, and I am expected to fully test anything I produce. I also review other employee's code and suggest improvements for them.
To what extent does your role give you the opportunity to contribute meaningfully and feel valued by your team?
5/5
My work directly impacts ongoing work involving other team members.
How does your compensation package - including perks & benefits - fairly remunerate you for the work you do?
5/5
The salary is excellent, with a yearly review. Graduates are also entitled to a half-year review.
Every four years, employees are entitled to a sabbatical which gives you an extra four weeks holiday on top of your usual allocation. This four weeks is taken at once in a single block or can be split into two two-week blocks.
There are further benefits available for purchase, as well as some free ones such as a base level personal healthcare.
Employees are allocated shares as well as given the opportunity to buy shares at a reduced rate as part of an Employee Stock Purchase Plan.
How well do you feel the role is preparing you for your future career?
5/5
I feel like the knowledge gained at Arm is invaluable and I look forward to progressing within the company. The skills learned would be very useful and transferable if looking to move to another company, but the opportunities within Arm make this highly unlikely.
How would you rate the extent to which you were developing new or existing skills through formal training and your day-to-day role?
5/5
Arm gives you skills that are valuable in real-world software engineering. There are teams that span all kinds of development, from web development to low-level firmware development. While there are many different specialisation opportunities, there are common practices that all teams use as a foundation even if the tools differ slightly. Some of these include; version control, unit testing, CI/CD, and documentation.

Experience & Company Culture

How is the support you receive?
5/5
Continual discussions with my manager about work as well as wellbeing check-ins, helpful and friendly employees in my own team and different teams, and a strong Graduate community make Arm an easy company to work for.
How is your work-life balance?
5/5
Unexpected life events have been met with understanding and compassion. Working outside of work hours is strongly discouraged, and there are regular events to improve mental wellbeing. Additionally, every quarter Arm gives all employees a 'day of care' which is an extra day off in addition to annual leave.
What is the organisational culture, values and general atmosphere like?
5/5
Very positive. The office is a nice place to work (and relax thanks to the dedicated Games room), and being a hybrid employee means that I can factor family considerations into my work week if I need to be home on certain days ready to pick the kids up after work or do the school run in the morning before work.
How would you rate Arm initiatives when it comes to equality, diversity, inclusion and accessibility?
5/5
There are events throughout the calendar year to celebrate different religions and ethnic backgrounds, as well as different genders and sexual orientations. There are also knowledge sharing sessions to improve awareness around accessibility.
How would you rate Arm CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) initiatives?
5/5
Arm is committed to improving environmental issues and allows staff to allocate up to a half day a month to volunteer their time in one of the many volunteering opportunities offered, as well as finding their own.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Arm to a friend?
Yes
Why?
I've had a few jobs and none come close to working at Arm. The job is interesting and fulfilling and the company really care about their employees.
How well did the role match your expectations based on the recruitment process?
5/5
The recruitment process indicated that Arm were looking for potential in applicants and since joining I have learned more than I expected.
When considering the recruitment & onboarding process, have you any specific tips or advice you would give to others applying to Arm?
Show your potential rather than worrying about not being good enough. Arm are looking to invest in people and create great employees.
