Intern Review

I was an intern on the Howden Reinsurance Internship Programme. I gained hands-on experience supporting brokers and working with clients, both MGAs and insurance capacity providers. Day-to-day I was helping to answer emails from clients and underwriters, attending client meetings, accompanying brokers going into Lloyd's to broke a deal, administrative tasks such as drafting up and amending contracts, and conducting research.

Yes, I was given a lot of responsibility during my internship. I was able to engage directly with the clients and attend important client meetings and I was very much involved in the everyday work of an insurance broker.

I received an enormous amount of guidance. My team were extremely supportive, always taking the time to explain tasks and technical terms thoroughly, including the context and background of the accounts we were working on. They regularly checked in to ensure I was confident in my understanding and always made themselves available to clarify anything I was unsure about. They always encouraged me to ask as many questions as possible so I could learn the most as possible.

Howden has a fantastic company culture - everyone is extremely friendly and sociable. It is a very collaborative work environment where open communication is encouraged and people are always willing to help. There is a very strong growth mindset across the company where everyone seems driven towards the company's success. Creativity and innovation are very valued as Howden encourages its employees to think outside the box.

I thoroughly enjoyed my internship at Howden — it was an incredibly well-rounded and rewarding experience. The programme began with two weeks of comprehensive training, where I gained a solid understanding of the technical aspects of insurance. This was followed by eight weeks of hands-on experience, allowing me to apply what I’d learned in a real-world setting. I was given excellent exposure to the insurance market and had the opportunity to work closely with a fantastic team who were extremely supportive. I came away from the internship feeling inspired to pursue a career in insurance and to work at Howden.
