Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
Working on a new internal software tool, learning about different technologies used by the team, and working on various existing tooling.
Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
Yes. I was essentially the same as any other employee, just with the addition of being expected to learn a variety of new things.

Skills Development
Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
I learnt to use various new technologies, such as GitLab CI, pre-commit, protobuf and more. I also developed my usage of Python, C++ and Git further, amongst others. I also got a much better feel of how to work well in a team than university could provide, along with an understanding of professional software engineering working practices.

Support and Guidance
How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
My team, and Arm in general, were very helpful, with guidance in any relevant area available from all kinds of sources. I regularly spoke to an experienced engineer on my team about areas I could improve, areas I was confused on, and anything else about the job and learning.

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
Very welcoming and inclusive. I had no issues with anyone there, and everyone I regularly interacted with was great and generally very helpful and very welcoming.

What advice would you give to others applying to Arm
Look for all of the opportunities available on the careers pages of the website. Be prepared to move to any of the offices in your country, and do research into what those places are like before moving - it's good to know, for example, that Cambridge is very expensive and this will impact you. You might not get an offer from the original team you interviewed with or applied for, but when they say they'll recommend you to other teams within Arm, they mean it and you may get an even better offer than you expect, even if it may take a little while.
