Overview of the Role

Overall, how would you describe your experience at Arm?
I think Arm is a great place to work at. Colleagues are very nice and helpful. Everybody is treated with respect regardless of their role. The benefits are great and the company genuinely cares about your well-being. The work is balanced, sometimes it is very challenging and forces you to learn new things quickly, while at other times it is very chill. The opportunity to rotate between different teams allows you to work on a selection of projects during which you learn new skills and can can give you a better look at what you would like as your future career.
What are the main responsibilities of the role and which elements of the role do you enjoy the most?
Main responsibilities are:
- verifying design through constrained-random stimulus
- writing simulation tests
- reporting and solving bugs (design, testbench or model)
- keeping testbench updated
- achieving/explaining 100% coverage
To what extent does your role give you the opportunity to contribute meaningfully and feel valued by your team?
4/5
At the beginning I felt like I was not contributing much, but I was still learning the project flow. Throughout the project timeline I picked up more and more tasks, to the point I felt overloaded and felt like I'm at the same level of understanding as older team members. I did get lots of recognition for my work, it did not go unacknowledged.
How does your compensation package - including perks & benefits - fairly remunerate you for the work you do?
4/5
Starting pay for my position was fair, the norm across the industry in the UK. I receive the same benefits and perks as everybody else in the company. I even got a pay rise following my work reviews. At the beginning, I often felt as if I'm not contributing enough for the pay I was getting, however, later on I felt like I was doing the same amount of work if not more as some senior members in my team and felt like I deserve more. I do understand though that it is not so easy as to get a promotion straight away.
How well do you feel the role is preparing you for your future career?
3/5
I feel that the current work I am doing is very specific to the project I am working on, and I fear that I would struggle in the same position and same role in a different team, working on a different project. Joining the team during the later phases of the project also did not help, as I believe it would be more beneficial for me to see the beginnings of a project. I also still have not been on a rotation and am definitely missing out on learning new skills.
How would you rate the extent to which you were developing new or existing skills through formal training and your day-to-day role?
4/5
I feel like each week I learn something new even when working on the same project. I would appreciate a rotation to a different project though, which would allow me to develop new skills again.

Experience & Company Culture

How is the support you receive?
4/5
Mentors were great, felt like I could approach them whenever I needed to and they were always willing to help. I would appreciate less vague feedback from my line manager and more effort from my buddy. HR is always fast to reply.
How is your work-life balance?
4/5
On average, I would say quite good. It helps that the atmosphere at work is good and that you can find many like minded people as you. Needing to sort personal issues during work hours is never a problem, you just need to know your team in advance. Only times when all of my work-life balance goes down-hill is during deadlines, when I often work overtime.
What is the organisational culture, values and general atmosphere like?
5/5
Everybody is very inclusive, friendly and welcoming. Hybrid policy is to come to the office at least 2 times a week. I can also work remotely from different countries if I ask for permission, which often comes in useful around holiday seasons.
How would you rate Arm initiatives when it comes to equality, diversity, inclusion and accessibility?
5/5
There are many social Slack channels open to all employees. The office celebrates all major religious holidays and gives presentations about different cultures.
How would you rate Arm CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) initiatives?
5/5
There are many volunteering opportunities available and each employee can take a certain amount of time off each month for volunteering. Recently, the Manchester office adopted a canal in the city, making it look nicer for everybody living in Manchester.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Arm to a friend?
Yes
Why?
Great culture, great people, you get treated fairly, work is interesting and allows for development, lots of perks and benefits...
How well did the role match your expectations based on the recruitment process?
4/5
When considering the recruitment & onboarding process, have you any specific tips or advice you would give to others applying to Arm?
Interviews for different teams can vary. Try to find someone working in a team you want to join and ask them what their expectations are. You don't have to be worried about your technical skills when applying for early careers roles, as interview questions often give you a very high-level scenario overview and focus more on your reasoning skills.
