Overview of the Role

Overall, how would you describe your experience at Arm?
Amazing, the company is extremely supportive of early career starters. They provide lots of opportunities to grow and contribute meaningfully to projects within the company. You join along side a group of like-minded people at the start which is really great and providing an extended support network of people in similar positions.
What are the main responsibilities of the role and which elements of the role do you enjoy the most?
As a graduate engineer I am often responsible for completing meaningful work that has direct impact on the quality of product delivered to our partners. With the option of rotations you are able to work within many different smaller teams which can allow you to try different technologies and ways of working, something that is very important when you are early in your career.
To what extent does your role give you the opportunity to contribute meaningfully and feel valued by your team?
5/5
Right from the start of joining the company you are treated as an important member of the team whilst being given the opportunity to contribute meaningfully to existing work and projects. This immediately gives you a sense ownership for your work.
How does your compensation package - including perks & benefits - fairly remunerate you for the work you do?
4/5
The compensation and perks are fair for the level and quality of work you are expected to contribute. Apart from your base salary most financial perks are paid in RSU (Restricted Stock Units) which are shares in the company that become available to you, to do what you want with, after a short waiting period. There are additional benefits provided by the company which include a generous pension contribution scheme and relocation support if required.
How well do you feel the role is preparing you for your future career?
5/5
Through the internships I completed at the company I was given a return offer to start September 25 as a graduate engineer. Now since starting full time I have been provided with a clear development plan for the future.
How would you rate the extent to which you were developing new or existing skills through formal training and your day-to-day role?
4/5
The formal training provided is very team dependent as lots of teams could be working with niche technology stacks that are unlikely to be taught within formal education to a high enough standard. Besides being placed on specific training courses there are lots of online training websites provided by the company that allow you to learn and develop additional skills.

Experience & Company Culture

How is the support you receive?
5/5
When anyone starts in the company they are provided with a buddy from within their team. providing an excellent initial point of contact for questions you might not want to ask your line manager. Most people will then have weekly for fortnightly 1-2-1s with their line manager and could be assigned a mentor.
How is your work-life balance?
5/5
Of the different companies I have worked for and interned the work life balance at arm is excellent and one of the main reasons why I chose to accept the return offer.
What is the organisational culture, values and general atmosphere like?
5/5
The company culture is amazing with everyone being kind and supportive regardless of position within the company. Interns and grads can feel immediately welcomed and supported. The hybrid policy is generous with most people expected to be in 1-2 days a week depending on their team.
How would you rate Arm initiatives when it comes to equality, diversity, inclusion and accessibility?
4/5
Arm has many employee run ERGs (Employee Resource Groups) such as Pride@arm, women@arm, black@arm and many more which are groups that can provide a more inclusive space within the company by hosting events to promote greater understanding to coworkers.
How would you rate Arm CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) initiatives?
5/5
Arm provides each of its employees half a day off every month to take part in volunteering/community initiatives which does not count towards your annual leave. The company has just finished its 1 million minutes campaign which saw 1.3 million minutes of volunteering completed across the company in the past year.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Arm to a friend?
Yes
Why?
Although early in my career arm is the best place that I have worked out. The people here are really passionate about producing excellent hardware that will power future computing across the globe. You get to work on really interesting projects no matter what area of the company you join from hardware design and verification to open source software contribution to working with our partners to help place our designed CPUs into partner SOCs.
How well did the role match your expectations based on the recruitment process?
4/5
If anything it has exceeded my expectations there is a reason I took two different return offers over my time at university to keep coming back.
When considering the recruitment & onboarding process, have you any specific tips or advice you would give to others applying to Arm?
Complete your research and work out why you want to be applying for your specific role. You should do some preparation before any interviews if you are asked to attend to ensure you can make the best impact possible. Really try to understand and embrace the company culture that exists and think why you will be a good fit for the company.
