Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
Working as an engineer in different placements across the business. Helping with concept and more detailed designs. going on site visits and communicating with contractors and other parts of the business to get all the required information for a project. Editing drawings and controlling documents. 4 days a week at work and one day of study for university work.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I have really enjoyed my first year. There is so much support and lots of other apprentices to work with.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
I have learned so much. I have completed several CPDs on different technologies we have in the business. I have greatly improved my CAD skills, and my Excel skills. I have used many programs for engineering design and calculation. My knowledge on HVAC, LV and HV electricity has definitely improved.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
We get to decide our placements every 6 months so you have to ber organised and responsible enough to ensure you are developing the knowledge and skills required for the Apprenticeship program
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
We have lots of support. Line managers that can answer any company based questions. Placement managers that are specialists in their field and know so much about the role. Mentors that help you decide on placements and can offer learning opportunities. Buddies/other apprentices that you can ask the little questions to.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
the University is very good with the program. Any problems that we have raised have been resolved and they are good at listening to our input. We have regular meetings with our employers and the training providers to ensure everything is going as planned.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
a lot of the skills are very applicable. Some of the learning is not what we do at work, but a lot of it is, or could be. we are always trying to innovate and improve and using some of the new skills I am learning from University can help with that.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5
I have attended a few networking events. I have also been to some careers fairs. There are always opportunities to socialise with the other apprentices.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend E.ON UK to a friend?
Yes
Why?
excelent company. so much support and great benefits. So many of the people I speak to have been here for decades because they encourage learning and are great at finding new roles within the company when you want a change. The flexible working is really beneficial when you have a longer commute and very helpful for general life maintenance.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to E.ON UK?
Don't be discouraged if the application process has lots of steps. Many companies do. Always ask for advice to improve if it doesn't go your way.
