Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
I am in Year 3 of my degree apprenticeship. I am currently working in product development on an innovation project. My role is to manage the reporting of the success of the project, work with our commercial teams to build a commercial model, and also write a paper on exit options of the project of the trial period. On a day-to-day basis, it involves having meetings with both internal and external stakeholders, working on different documents and travelling to visit the site.
I also am active in our Pride employee network (a diversity network for LGBTQIA+ colleagues and allies). I will typically spend a couple of hours a week working on communications or planning events such as Pride parades.
I also study alongside my Apprenticeship for my degree. I get one day a week to study, where I will watch lectures, write assignments and do individual research.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I thoroughly enjoy the programme at E.ON. It is very well structured, and I love the flexibility of being able to move placements every 6 months and work in different areas of the business. I really like how the company values Apprentices (opening up some fantastic opportunities), and we are supported by all colleagues across the business.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
I have learnt a variety of skills during my programme. I think the most significant one for me is confidence. When I started the programme, I was slightly shy/quiet, and it took me a few months to build up that confidence, which was helped by getting me involved in new experiences that took me outside my comfort zone. I have also learnt extremely important soft skills such as communication, manging conflicts and working as a team which are extremely valuable.
In terms of my Apprenticeship, I have learnt about a range of topics which I can apply into my job role including stakeholder management, project planning, finance, risk management, and responsible business practice.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
5/5
The programme is extremely well structured. We are provided with great placements which really build our existing knowledge. We also have quarterly engagement days managed by early careers to bring us together as a cohort, developing our relationships with each other, but also learning about different areas of the business.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
We receive excellent support from all colleagues at E.ON. Our early careers team are always there for pastoral and general scheme support, and from my experience, my managers have always been there to support me and help me develop. Although we have the flexibility to choose placements and the pathway we take, we have regular reviews and meetings with early careers where support is always provided.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
I receive excellent support from my training provider. Every 12 weeks we have a review meeting with the training provider, where we review my progress against the apprenticeship standard to date, and identify any areas of support. Between these meetings, I have a designated work-based learning tutor that I can contact for any support questions, and for module specific learning, the lecturers are always an email or teams message away.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
5/5
My project management degree is extremely useful in my project management role. I really enjoy being able to take learning straight out of University and apply it to my job role. I have been able to apply different theories and models such as Gantt charts, stakeholder maps, risk registers etc. which help me manage my projects.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
Although we don't have specific extra-curricular activities like sports team, one of the main extra-curricular activities is to do with our diversity networks. We have 13 diversity networks at E.ON, where all colleagues are encouraged to get involved. The networks host conferences and events that employees can attend, and everyone can get involved. We also have conference days as Teams, and often this will involve some sort of team activity or social after the day.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend E.ON UK to a friend?
Yes
Why?
I would highly recommend E.ON with the development opportunities they offer. No matter your background or experience, you will develop in the business and there are always endless opportunities for this. The culture at E.ON is also far ahead of other organisations. E.ON champions diversity, offers amazing benefits such as equal parental leave, and they really look after their people.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to E.ON UK?
When applying, always be your authentic self. Don't try to be someone else for an interview or application process. Use real life experiences where you can in your questions in answers you give, and be curious - ask questions! Do some research into the company and find out about the values which you could include in any discussions or answers.
