Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
As a Digital Technology Degree Apprentice at E.ON, my role combines gaining a university-level qualification with hands-on experience in a leading energy company. I contribute to digital transformation projects that support E.ON’s mission of delivering sustainable and customer-focused energy solutions. This involves applying what I learn through my degree in areas such as software development, data analysis, and cloud computing to real business challenges, while continuously developing my technical and professional skills.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I really enjoy the Digital Technology Degree Apprenticeship because it allows me to gain real industry experience while working towards a degree. I particularly value the opportunity to apply what I learn at university directly to real projects at E.ON, as it makes the learning more meaningful and practical. I also enjoy being part of an innovative environment where I can contribute to digital transformation and sustainability goals.
Of course, balancing study with work can be challenging at times, but I find this motivating as it pushes me to develop strong time-management and organisational skills. Overall, the programme is both rewarding and enjoyable, and I feel it is setting me up with the right mix of skills and experience for a successful career in digital technology.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
Yes, I’ve both developed new skills and built on existing ones during the programme. On the technical side, I’ve learned new programming concepts, worked with databases, and gained a better understanding of areas like cloud computing and AI. I’ve also developed my problem-solving skills by applying theory from university modules to real projects at E.ON.
In addition, I’ve improved existing skills such as communication, teamwork, and time management. Balancing academic study with workplace responsibilities has really strengthened my ability to prioritise tasks and stay organised. Overall, I feel I’m continuously learning and becoming more confident in both my technical expertise and professional skills.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
5/5
The programme is well organised and structured, with a clear balance between academic study and workplace experience. The university modules are scheduled in a way that supports my learning at E.ON, and I’ve found that the content often complements the projects I’m working on. Within the workplace, there’s a clear framework for support, with regular check-ins, development opportunities, and guidance from managers and colleagues.
Of course, balancing work and study requires good time management, but the structure of the programme makes this manageable and ensures I’m progressing in both areas. Overall, I feel the programme is well designed to support my development.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
I receive a strong level of support from my employer. At E.ON, there are regular check-ins with my manager and team, which gives me the chance to ask questions and get feedback. Colleagues are always approachable and willing to share their knowledge, which has helped me develop both technical and professional skills.
I also receive support with balancing my academic commitments alongside my workplace responsibilities, which makes the apprenticeship manageable. Overall, I feel well supported and encouraged to grow, both in my studies and in my role at E.ON.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
I receive a good level of support from my training provider while working towards my qualifications. They provide structured learning materials, regular guidance on coursework, and clear feedback on assignments. Tutors and support staff are approachable and responsive, which helps me stay on track and understand difficult concepts.
This support, combined with the practical experience I gain at E.ON, ensures I can effectively apply my learning and progress steadily through my programme.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
5/5
I feel that my qualification through my training provider helps me perform significantly better in my role. The modules give me a strong foundation in digital technology concepts such as programming, data analysis, and project management, which I can then apply directly to my work at E.ON.
Learning the theory alongside gaining hands-on experience allows me to understand not just how to do something, but also why it’s done that way, which improves the quality of my work and my problem-solving ability. Overall, the qualification is closely aligned with my day-to-day responsibilities and is helping me develop into a more capable and confident professional.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
Yes, there are extra-curricular activities available at E.ON that I can get involved in. These include social events, team-building activities, and professional networking opportunities, which help build connections across different departments. There are also initiatives and interest groups focused on areas like sustainability and innovation, which allow apprentices and employees to collaborate outside of day-to-day work.
Participating in these activities not only helps me develop professionally but also allows me to connect with colleagues, build a sense of community, and gain a broader understanding of the company culture.
