Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
Having completed my first month at E.ON, most of my current responsibilities has been surrounding getting used to the systems of work, and learning what it is the company actually do to reach their net-zero goals. I have undergone different bits of training, such as CAD and Health and Safety Regulation training to help get me started on my apprenticeship. From the start of my first 6 month placement, I’ve been given work that will impact real projects from the get-go, which has been amazing as I’ve really felt like even at this early stage I’m helping to make a difference.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
So far I have really enjoyed my time at E.ON, everyone I work alongside are all lovely people, and everyone wants to see you succeed and do your best - they are always willing to take the time out of their day to support you no matter how big or small the problem may be. The fact we get a new placement every 6 months also excites me, as it will give me the opportunity to find an area in E.ON that really clicks with me, and to help my understanding of the business as a whole.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
As its early doors, there hasn’t been a lot of technical knowledge for me to begin learning at E.ON, as I only started university last week. I have however built on my current understanding from my prior education at T-Levels, through e-learning packages on Health and Safety, and new knowledge on schematic notation. There are lots of exciting opportunities moving forward I’m looking forward to diving into now that the ball is rolling too.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
5/5
E.ON have been absolutely excellent so far during the first month. From the assessment centre through to now, the level of support my cohort have received has made the whole process a lot easier, especially with how big of a change it’s been for me moving away from home for the job. The 6 month placements gives you objectives to work towards, with reviews roughly every 3 months so you always have a target ahead of you to work towards, meaning you’re rarely lost on what to do. Anytime you are confused or need some guidance, there are so many people to reach out to so you’re never alone either.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
As mentioned before, E.ON have gone above and beyond so far with the levels of support they have given us. The network of people we can reach out to means no matter the situation at hand, there’s always someone to go to if you need help or guidance. I’ve felt that E.ON truly do care about us as apprentices, and really do want us to do our best and be at our best, and so far they’ve done everything to help me achieve that.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
I get a dedicated study day each week to ensure I meet my off the job training requirements, and to give me time to work towards my qualification. During this time, the people I work with have always respected that I’m busy studying, and will never reach out about work to disrupt me, which has been amazing. I’ve also been shared learning documents and other resources which have tied into my studies already, as well as advice on communication between E.ON and my university, and how tripartite meetings will work.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
5/5
I believe that my qualification will really benefit me in a role at E.ON. It will give me a massive boost in technical knowledge and understanding, which is really important especially on the large scale projects E.ON work on. Already from my first month I’m seeing the benefits from what I’ve learned, and how it’s making the tasks I’ve been given easier to understand and more straightforward to complete.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
There are plenty of groups that you can join within E.ON, which we got introduced to within the first week at the company. One of the things I really appreciated from E.ON was that although I had just started, they still saw me as an employee, and made available to me all of these amazing extra-curricular opportunities from the very start. As well as this, site visits and gaining an understanding of many different areas of the business has been eye-opening on thinking where I’d like to have my next placement, and helped with my networking within the business.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend E.ON UK to a friend?
Yes
Why?
Overall so far the onboarding process and work / uni balance has been spot on. There hasn’t been a time where I haven’t felt supported, or that there hasn’t been a real push for my development and growth within the company.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to E.ON UK?
Be yourself! E.ON seem to really appreciate people who are genuinely interested in the company and the sector, whose ideas and morales match with theirs. If you really show your interest and are genuine during your interviews, it will be picked up on.
