Overview of the Role

Overall, how would you describe your experience at Savills?
I have greatly valued the client exposure I’ve had during rotations where such opportunities have been available, though I do wish there were more consistent avenues to engage in client-facing activities. I appreciate that, from a senior perspective, graduates may not always be included in client events such as lunches or drinks due to budget considerations or concerns around experience and knowledge. However, my understanding upon joining Savills was that we would be encouraged to begin building relationships with clients early on, as these connections may one day become valuable when we take on more senior roles. I believe it’s unfortunate that these opportunities are not offered to us more frequently. Personally, having such experiences would strongly reinforce my aspiration to pursue a future career at Savills, as it would demonstrate trust and encouragement. However, I feel that these opportunities have been somewhat limited
What are the main responsibilities of the role and which elements of the role do you enjoy the most?
Property Management - Service Charge Reconciliation, Service Charge Budget, Chasing Arrears, Resolving tenant disputes.
Commercial Valuation - Due Diligence, Gathering Comparable Rental and Investment Evidence, Analysing Comparable Evidence, Making Weighted assumptions for Market Value, Analysing Market Research, Engaging with Argus Enterprise to Determine Market Value.
To what extent does your role give you the opportunity to contribute meaningfully and feel valued by your team?
3/5
I have experienced fluctuations in levels of responsibility throughout my rotations. During my time in valuation, despite completing a double, about 80% of my time consisted of me conducting comparable calls. Whilst this is necessary for us to achieve precise and detailed valuations, it did prohibit me from doing as much of the analytical work on argus enterprise which was quite frustrating as this would have been really useful in perfecting my overall understanding. It was quite hard to develop skills in valuation because I was quite restricted in what I felt I was allowed to engage with/ in, however, the comparable calls have allowed me to gauge a better understanding of how to interact with competitors and the gain the information i need from them to help us.
How does your compensation package - including perks & benefits - fairly remunerate you for the work you do?
4/5
I think these are all fair.
How well do you feel the role is preparing you for your future career?
3/5
Overall, I feel things have gone relatively well, but I believe it would be more beneficial to receive a bit more support from each team throughout the rotations. I fully appreciate that, as graduates, it is our responsibility to seek clarification and proactively ask for help to deepen our understanding, and that teams are aware we are only with them for a limited period before moving on. However, at times, it has felt as though some teams are less invested in supporting our learning and development, focusing primarily on completing the work rather than helping us understand how it connects to the APC process.
How would you rate the extent to which you were developing new or existing skills through formal training and your day-to-day role?
3/5
My roles have varied throughout my time at Savills, some have allowed me to dig my heels in and get involved on a deeper level with being given full control of certain situations/ issues to resolve. which I really enjoyed. Other roles have been more surface level where I have not felt that same level of responsibility and simply been restricted to the standard work practices, even though the work that I am doing is contributing to the team.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Savills to a friend?
Yes
Why?
I think Savills is a very inclusive place.
How well did the role match your expectations based on the recruitment process?
4/5
Relatively well
When considering the recruitment & onboarding process, have you any specific tips or advice you would give to others applying to Savills?
Be transparent and demonstrate your independence. Anyone can learn an automated system, which is ultimately just a small part of the role. However, I strongly believe that while Savills can teach you new skills and knowledge, they cannot change your personality. At the end of the day, it is your character and individuality that truly matter. That is their unique selling point, the diversity of personalities within the company is what makes Savills so appealing, ensuring there is a place for everyone. Be authentic, share a light-hearted story, and clearly demonstrate why you are a worthwhile investment of time and resources
